Boys Basketball 1-29

8:32
Hi everyone...It is Sherlon Christie, the boys basketball reporter at the Asbury Park Press. I hope you got a chance to see Neptune's 56-55 victory over Freehold. If not, you missed quite a game.
8:33
It was the best I've seen Neptune play all year and it looks like the Scarlet Fliers found the answer to their rebounding problems.
8:34
They outrebounded Freehold, 30-25, and got Freehold's big man, Christian Garcia into foul trouble.
8:34
Garcia picked up his 3rd foul with 3:44 left in the second quarter.
8:35
He picked up his 4th foul with 1:33 left in the game but didn't foul out.

First off Sherlon, hats off to both teams for a phenomenal game. It was a hard fought, heated battle. I must say I was impressed with Garcia coming out in the second half and staying smart, knowing he was in trouble. That was the difference in the game though, Freehold needs avoid using Mike Wang. He has struggled in every big spot he's been in.
8:37
Well...Wang didn't look like himself out there....
8:37
I'm not sure how much he usually plays...but didn't seem comfortable out there..

After seeing tonight's game (and hopefully noticing Neptune's improved mental toughness compared to earlier in the year,) what are your thoughts on tomorrow's game vs. Monmouth Regional?
8:40

Friday's game is going to very tough....

8:40
I could see Neptune winning by 1-3 points...I could see Monmuth winning by 1-3 points...
8:40
I don't see a blowout....I think it will come down to depth and fouls....now we'll see if Monmouth's bench is ready....
8:41
because you know Neptune is going to pressure them

Another observation to me has been Freehold's struggles on the boards. Fact is, they aren't a very good rebounding team. It has been the case all season long, and showed earlier this evening. I think that is going to be their downfall come SCT and state tournament time.
8:41
Garcia is their rebounder...I think he averages like 8.6 a game...then next closest person averages like 2.3....
