Miss Conduct on proper etiquette: Nov. 18 at noon

11:35
Lifestyle Producer -  Miss Conduct will be along at noon, but you early-birds with pressing questions can begin asking away now. Thanks for chatting!
11:59
MissConduct -  And here I am, everyone. I was startled to see the "Lifestyle Producer" had put in my usual "yo, send in your q's, I'll be there soon" message for me! What's everyone got today?
12:01
MissConduct -  What, no holiday dilemmas to report?

I'm going to a SPA on Saturday, massage, facial, mani, pedi. do I tip each attendant or is it across the board
12:04
MissConduct -  I would call in advance and ask the management, actually (or ask when you get there); they might have a policy about that. (Although I've tipped individually when I've gotten more than one thing done and no one's complained.)

As a single woman, it's often awkward to receive holiday party invitation without "bring a guest" welcome. Is it "polite" to ask if I can bring an escort?
12:05
MissConduct -  If it's someone you know quite well, and if it's an informal party. If not, go and maybe you'll meet someone! (For romance, friendship, or networking purposes.)

Okay, I'll bite. This is a long-running one. I don't have children (by choice), but most of my friends do. When discussing any holiday plans (inclulding arbor day) anything I say is met with "oh, you need children! you have too much time on your hands." So what if I can take my mother to NYC for shopping? I don't judge their choice, why comment on mine?
12:06
MissConduct -  I'd be awfully tempted to reply to that particular comment--laughingly--with "You need time, you have too many children on your hands!" And I bet most parents would agree, particularly around the holiday season.

I generally tip individually. My stylist gets the bulk, but shampoo person gets a few bucks as well.
