HI Joey, what are youre picks for tonight?
7:09
Joey Johnston -

Let me throw out a few picks.

* Plant over Plant City -- For some reason, I'm tempted to go with Plant City, the hot young team in Hillsborough County, but logic won't permit it. However, I'm extremely curious to see what happens if this game is close in the fourth quarter.

* Newsome over Alonso -- Do not agree with the prep pundits who like Alonso in this game. To me, Alonso's season ended when a coach said, "Darn it, guys! Can you please do a better job out there?'' Or something like that. Said coach got booted. Alonso comes in at 4-6.

* Armwood over Sickles -- Hawks in a big way.

* Lakewood over Pasco -- I like Lakewood's ability to make big plays and pull the mild upset.

Well, there's a few.

Joey Johnston -  Again, we'd ask anyone at a game, with their PDA, to check in and give us updates/a feel for the atmosphere.

Joey Johnston -

This from Nick Williams, who is covering the state volleyball tournament in Lakeland:

Tampa Prep defeated Tallahassee Maclay and Plant beat Miami Ferguson to advance to Saturday’s state championship matches. Tampa Prep will face Orlando First Academy in the 2A final at noon while Plant will face Winter Park in the 6A title match at 5 p.m.

You can read more in Saturday’s Tampa Tribune.

On a side note, when one reporter asked Plant players and coach Leanna Taylor about Tampa being a hotbed for volleyball talent and how playing teams like Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep give them an advantage, the players and Taylor expressed their displeasure of not playing Berkeley Prep this year. Jokingly, members of the media suggested they play an unsanctioned match in a neutral gym to decide who is the top team in Tampa, if not the state. The Plant players said they would.

What do you all think? Should Berkeley Prep and Plant play in an unsanctioned match for bragging rights?

7:29
Joey Johnston -  As we approach our kickoffs, who is the most likely team from the Tampa Bay area to contend for a state football title?
7:31
Joey Johnston -  Sign from Jefferson, obviously directed to Land O'Lakes.
You Thought You Were Going To Win???
 LOL
