7:51

Seven minutes until what may be the final  game of the 2009 season.   Game 5 between the Yankees and the Phillies.

7:51
A.J. Burnett on short rest vs. Cliff Lee on normal rest.   It's a matchup that clearly favors the Phillies, particularly with Jorge Posada and Melky Cabrera absent from the Bombers lineup.
7:53
If you haven't heard the news, Cabrera is off the Yankee roster because the hamstring injury he suffered last night.
7:54

In a big surprise, Ramiro Pena was the choice to replace him.   It's hard to imagine any of the Yankees' infielders coming out of a game, and Freddy Guzman made far more sense as a pinch-runner and possible defensive replacement in the outfield.

[Comment From Kirill]
what do you know about the replacement in terms of pinch hitting/pinch running abilities?
7:55
That's the thing... he's pretty useless in both areas.   Pena has somewhat above average speed, but he's not nearly the runner that Guzman is.
7:55
He's a fine defender in the infield, but that doesn't figure to do the Yankees any good.
7:56
Of course, at this point, it's probably not going to come down to who the Yankees' 25th man is.

[Comment From Scott C.]
Let's be honest... it doesn't really matter.
7:56

Yep.
