Chat with Dan Gottlieb

12:00
Dan Gottlieb -

Welcome to today's chat on resilience. For those of you who read the column yesterday you know that my guest is clinical social worker Kim Fendrick. Born in Poland several years before the Nazis invasion she experienced being displaced, hidden and saved all within a few years. When she got to this country, she devoted herself to her studies and now practices in Haddonfield New Jersey. I should say that she is also a friend and colleague of mine and has appeared on my radio show.

Dan Gottlieb -

Kim, resilience has intrigued me since my accident. I have interviewed nearly 100 people who have overcome adversity and all of their stories differ, but there are some themes they have in common. Hopefully, over the course of this hour, we will hear from people who have overcome adversity and from people who were having difficulty doing so.

Kim, give us a sense of what you lived through at what age.

Dan Gottlieb -

I understand and that means many things. You had to run away from your home in Poland, you and your family. Where did they go and how old were you?
