Devra First -  How did it get to be 11 already? Good morning, everyone. Let's talk about food, restaurants, and whatever else is on your mind. Eaten anything good lately?
11:03
Devra First -  Just in case you didn't see it, today our annual Plonkapalooza ran. It's a great guide to wine bargains from the estimable Stephen Meuse.
11:05
Devra First -  In other dining letters, see Kim Severson's moving tale about chef Thomas Keller and his dad in the Times.
11:06
Devra First -  And while we're having our heart strings tugged, there's this story of the Bon Savor owners' struggle to get back into the country after a trip home to Colombia.

Hi Devra, where's a good place to get a yummy pumpkin ale and other seasonal drinks?
11:07
Devra First -  Cambridge Brewing Company is a great place for pumpkin ales and other seasonal suds. Right now they have
  • Berliner Kendall Berlin-style wheat beer
  • Great Pumpkin Ale
  • Bière de Gourde Farmhouse ale with pumpkins
  • Om
  • Dunkles Weizen Dark German-style wheat beer “mit hefe”
  • YouEnjoyMyStout Russian Imperial Stout
  • O.P.P. Olde Pumpkin Porter
11:08
Devra First -  I'm pretty sure "mit hefe" means "with boss" in German. Yeah. ;)

I had a wonderful meal at Savinos Grill in Belmont. Grilled salmon special.

Devra First -  Sounds good. Always good to get your omega 3s in.

Savinos Grill has fixed special menu for $35.00 on some weekday nights.

Devra First -  What was so good about the salmon? What came with it?

I'm all about soups right now. Anything creamy and delicious out there you can recommend? Also, I'm interested to try pho ... where should I go (anywhere in Boston area works for me). Thank you!

Devra First -  I am always all about soups. I haven't had anything great and creamy recently, but Prezza has a wild mushroom soup with roasted tomatoes, white beans, rosemary, and grilled bread on the online menu that sounds pretty great.
11:12
Devra First -  (Actually, I had a totally fantastic cream of mushroom soup a few weeks ago, but it was in Portland, Ore., which doesn't help.)
11:12
Devra First -  Pho, I like Xinh Xinh in Chinatown.
11:12
Devra First -  Also, Bubor Cha-Cha, new Malaysian in Chinatown, has other interesting noodle soups to try.

They coated the salmon with seasoned flour/breadcrumbs before they grilled it. As a result, it had a nice light crust with flavor and remained moist.

I am coming to town soon and am wondering about the best ethiopian restaraunt in town. Any suggestions? How about Basque cuisine? Thanks!
11:14
Devra First -  I would not say that Ethiopian is Boston's strong suit, but we do have some good options. Fasika in Somerville is one to try. I also hear good things about Habesha in Malden, though I haven't been.
11:15
Devra First -  As for Basque, there might be a few dishes sprinkled in at Estragon or Taberna de Haro, both tapas places.
