Practical tips for job-seekers

Jane -  Hi Gloria, Welcome to our online chat.
11:38
Gloria Leidel -  Hi Jane.   Thanks for having me.

Jane -

Just to introduce Gloria -- she's a job counselor and job developer at Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia in Maple Shade. She also runs a job club there. Gloria is an expert in the practical  basics of a job hunt.   You can read about them in today's Philadelphia Inquirer in the business section or you can check on this website by going to go.philly.com/jobbing. Her approach is very common sense. So please send in your questions. We'll be here for about half an hour to 45 minutes or so.

Jane -  Gloria, here's my first question.  Sometimes I've covered stories at these big job fairs and truthfully, they seem like a waste of time. No one seems to be actually hiring and a lot of times the recruiters won't even accept a resume.  What's the deal with that? Is there a point to going, and if so, what is it?
12:02
Gloria Leidel -  Jane:   Job Fairs are not only for the employer but are also for potential workers to ask questions to the Recruiters.   Ask many questions including the application process.

What kind of questions?

Gloria, I just completed my master in applied economics at Temple University. Temple hasn't provided me any assistance in my job search, any strategies you can suggest?
12:05
Jane -  Gloria  is the right person to ask.

Gloria Leidel -  Where do I apply.   Are your applications online.    Who  do I follow Iup with.   How long will it take  before I receive a response.
12:06
Jane -  Those are good questions -- you are talking about job fairs, right?
