How long will it take to get hired?
2:08
gdol -  Job search is a job in and of itself.   The more time we put in searching has it rewards, however the average time out is from 11 to 14 weeks at this time.

Are there any job openings for entry level print journalists right now? I'm finishing up an internship at Southern Living and don't know what to do next.

gdol -  Rachel, as you are finishing up your internship, it may be a good idea to request an information interview with the HR representatives at Southern Living to get a fresh perspective on the next step, as well.

Due to an old injury, I sometimes limp a little in women's dress shoes. For a job interview, is It is better to wear shoes I can walk well in, or to wear shoes that are dressier and business-like?

gdol -  Hi Cynthia, there are  quite a few great looking options that are both stylish and comfortable.   While it is important to look your best, it is just as important to be comfortable.

I was downsized out of my job in Dec. 05 and severance ran out in July 06. I was pregnant so I could not look for work. I never applied for unemployment (I was eligible then for it) and continued to care for my daughter and critically ill parents. I want to know if I can apply for and am qualified for unemployment now that I am able to look for a job? Thanks.

gdol -

Hi Cindy, in order for us to determine if you are eligible for unemployment benefits, you will need to come into the career center nearest you to apply.

I'm 62, visually impaired, registered and working with Voc Rehab of DOL, feel my strengths would be in Customer Service Management or Public Relations. Can't seem to get any valid leads. Two questions: Will the OASIS program be of that much help, and any suggestions of where I could go to make connection with people hiring CSR management candidates?
2:21
GDOL -
You answer part one - The number of First-Line Supervisors/Managers of Office and Administrative Support Workers employed in Georgia in 2006 was 52,569. It is projected that in 2016 there will be 56,291. This represents an annual average growth rate of 0.7 percent, slower than 1.3 percent growth rate for all occupations in Georgia .

2:23
gdol -  Hi Bill, the OASIS program offers a  series of assessments that lends to pinpointing exactly what types of positions are best suited for your skills and qualifications.  Representatives then advocate to various employers on your behalf for placement.

Does anyone know any jobs that are hiring 14 year olds in columbus ga?
2:25
GDOL -  May want to try your local Workforce Investment Agency One-Stop Center.  Many times they have youth opportunities available for summer employment.  The GDOL Career Center can refer you or contact them directly at:  706-653-4539.

Have 37 years experience in the apparel industry including sales, marketing , manufacturing and sourcing . After researching job availability in this industry since end of December , previous company closed, have found that this industry continues tio slide both manufacturing and retail to imports . Have applied to alternate industries with not much sucess . Desire to return to the employed status as I am sure all unemployeeed want band have started applying down in experience and pay level . What is yoru suggestion to convince employers with lower salary position to consider hiring even if overqualified for the opening ?
2:35
gdol -  When applying down for positions and salaries, it is a good idea to focus on those things that are relevant to the position  and highlight those skills and experience that makes you the best possible person they could hire.   Stressing things like dependability and loyalty are a plus.
