Eagles fan chat #14

1:11
Delawareonline -  Good afternoon everyone. Geoff Mosher joins us to talk about the Eagles, who are coming off a somewhat costly win last night against the Redskins. Fire away with your questions.
1:11
Geoff Mosher -  Hey all.
1:12
Geoff Mosher -  I hear there's a pretty good baseball game tomorrow night.
1:12
Delawareonline -  Geoff, what's the latest on Westbrook?
1:13
Geoff Mosher -  No news today. As of last night, Reid said he had sustained a concussion and would see how Westbrook progresses before they practice again tomorrow. I wouldn't pencil in Westbrook for practice.
1:15
Delawareonline -  Geoff, from your seat in the press box, what will it take for the Redskins to become contenders again? It looks like this is a mult-year project.
1:17
Geoff Mosher -

You know how the NFL is. Next year, they could win 11 games and the NFC East. They've got a pretty good defense - 30 straight games without allowing 30 points, an NFL best - but they need to overhaul the offense with some playmakers.

1:18
Geoff Mosher -

They've made too many bad decisions on offense and have one of the league's worst offensive lines and an overpaid WR in Antwaan Randle El.

1:18
Geoff Mosher -  It all starts with the front office. they routinely throw big money at free agents who aren't that good and they don't draft well, leaving them thin at critical positions.
1:19
Geoff Mosher -  which is why they're usually - not this year - a .500 team with a chance to contend but falter down the stretch.

Geoff, In the past with Shurmur as QB coach, it was always stressed that McNabb's accuracy issues are majorly impacted by his leg work (not bending the front knee.) Obviously, McNabb has not been accurate for the past two games, do you see any scenario that he gets benched? ANY? Or will Reid let him work out of this mechanical rut?
1:22
Geoff Mosher -  Tom, this has been McNabb's MO for most of his career - strings of big passing games followed by stretches of mediocre ones. accuracy will never be his strongest attribute. It's not really a mechanical rut. That's just his game. Holds onto the ball long, keeps plays alive and throws the ball well downfield. But unless they lose three or four straight and McNabb's not playing well - like last season - the job's his. I don't see him losing his job if he plays poorly but the Eagles win games.

Is Stacy Andrews making any progress, or can we chalk this up to a lost year and maybe even a really bad FA signing?

Why does McNabb have such bad footwork on passes when he is pressured a little. Thinking back to Kolb's games, he had much greater presssure at times, but still put the ball on the money. I'm glad for the win, but that worries me. Raiders went all out on defense and totally dis rupted McNabb!
1:23
Geoff Mosher -  Sean, he's seems to have good moments bad ones. Reid keeps saying that Stacy looks stronger and more confident in the knee but then starts someone else at RG.

Whoa. People really love to jump to conclusions here (re: Stacy Andrews).
1:25
Geoff Mosher -  Fan60, McNabb has always had unsteady feet in the pocket and doesn't throw well when pressured. But you can say that about a lot of quarterbacks. Let's remember that Kolb only started two games. it's possible he could go through similar spurts but we haven't had the chance to see it yet.
1:26
Geoff Mosher -  Ben Roethlisberger is a good example. He doesn't have great footwork and holds onto the ball longer than most QBs but his ability to elude the rush and hang onto the ball also allows his WRs to get open downfield. Double-edged sword.

thanks for your answer. The O-line desperately needs some stability and health. Hoping Andrews can eventually provide that

Geoff, There seems to be more mis-communication in the secondary this year as oppose to recent years. Is this due to the defense just getting on the same page (as in, this is normal) or due to Johnson's passing? Or to Dawkins' departure. Or, in a cop out answer, all three?
