SignOnLiveChatModerator -

Before we kick off the chat, I wanted to let you know about the U-T's expanded draft coverage tomorrow. Of course, there will be plenty in the print edition of the Union-Tribune. We will also have additional updates and stories on chargers.uniontrib.com. Starting at 1 p.m., Kevin Acee will be joined by assistant sports editor Jay Posner and columnists Nick Canepa and Tim Sullivan on a live chat that will continue throughout the day. Updates will also be available through Twitter @sdutchargers.

Hi KC, comparing the CHarges Defensive and OFfensive stats last year, do you think the Chargers will focus on Defense in, say, their first 5 picks?
11:04
k acee -  Of course. As of right now, five picks means through the fourth round. I'd say at least three of those will be defense.

Would Clary play better at G if a OT can be taken this weekend? Also, will WR be addressed, as VJack and Chambers are free agents after this year? Or is the team counting on Buster/resigning VJack?
11:06
k acee -  He might be better suited for guard, given his relative (lack of) athleticism. They have long talked about a possible move inside for Clary. As for WR, yes, the future of CC and VJ is up in the air. I think one fo the fourth-round picks is a WR.

If we were to trade our pick which direction do you think we would Go?
11:09
k acee -  You mean up or down? It makes no sense to go up because they'd have to give up picks they don't have to give up. And they don't need to go up. As for which player, they could still slide down and get a good running back (Wells or Donald Brown, or even wait until the second round) or maybe a DE (Hood, P. Jerry).

Where do you see QB Josh Freeman going? Amd how will he fare?
11:12
k acee -  I guess he's fallen on some boards, but the Jets might still be interested. It would be in the Chargers' best interest if someone later (Detroit if they didn't take Stafford)  fell in love with him and didn't want to risk Tampa Bay or NY Jets taking him.

If Oher happens to fall to 16 and Rey M is gone - do you think he is the pick over a RB.
11:12
k acee -  I know they've had interest in Oher. He's the only OT I see them investing in at 16. I just haven't gotten a vibe on them taking a tackle.

speaking of QB, does backup QB need to be addressed?
11:13
k acee -  Nope. Not unless Whitehurst is traded.
11:15
k acee -  I don't know what LT's contract shows except that both he and the Chargers were flexible. But it was a financially prudent deal for the team. You are right about the next two years being HUGE in the eyes of management, but they're not drastically changing their philosophy.

With all three AFC West rivals in (putting it politely) depleted states, and especially if the cap-free happens next year, would Spanos and Smith onsider some financial push for grabbing the golden ring in the next 2 years -- or is their philosophy of long-term inviolable? LT's contracts suggests some wiggle room in ideology.

Is there any chance they'll take a corner early in the draft? Do they have faith in Cromartie? And do you have a special suit for Draft Day?
11:17
k acee -  No chance. Too much invested (time and money) in Cromartie to give up now. And he's pretty talented ... No suit for the draft.

[Comment From Long]
If the chargers trade down, who do you think would be likely trade partners?
11:19
k acee -  Philadelphia, NY Giants, Minnesota.

How early do you think we'll target a safety? Also have you heard much about how Oliver is viewed by the team?
