World Series Game 1 Southpaw

7:16
Welcome to The Southpaw's World Series Game 1 live chat. Thanks for taking time out to join us. Hopefully, we have an exciting game and some great conversation.

So, tonight's matchup has the game's most historic and legendary franchise face off agaisnt baseball's losingest club. That said the organization with 10,000 losses is also the one that happens to be defending the World Series trophy.
7:47
The Importance of Game 1 cannot be overstressed. The team that has the first game has gone on to win each of the last six World Series. The Phillies are 8-3 in post-season series after taking the first game and 0-6 in series in which they've dropped Game 1. During the Yankees' recent successful run, they have gone 1-2 in World Series in which they've lost Game 1 and 3-0 in World  Series in which they've won the first game.

They're playing the Star Wars theme over the intros during the World Series. How bush league is this?
7:49
I loved it. Absolutely loved it.
7:51

And yes, there's irony in the Phillies being introduced to the Imperial March

The crowd's going to boo the Phillies anyway. Go ahead and bait them for the rest of the game. But let the introductions stand alone. The only way the Yankees could make New York look small time.
7:58

OK, does anyone else remember Kim Basinger being in Wayne's World?

So how do you like the lineup batting Francisco 7?
8:01
Kind of confused by it because his speed would be better used near Rollins.

[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
a bunt attempt? sure, let's give away outs
8:03
I love bunting, but I agree. That wasn't well thought out.
8:04
Ah, Basinger was in the sequel.

[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
i'm all for the bunting in general, but not there. At least make him throw two pitches

Feel the power of the beard!
8:10

Tim McCarver loves to   call low liners "tracers." I always prefered "frozen rope."

So it's going to be like this, eh? I guess leaving lots of men on base early has worked before, but they really feel the need to do it again?
8:18

Maybe eating a cheesesteak before this game wasn't a smart idea for Phillies fans
.

Didn't Pedro throw his curveball the similarly?
8:20

Cliff Lee struck out Jeter on a curve that pretty much just spun. But because it was in that spot it was hard to hit. I've always been of the opinion that there's a spot, a bit above the letters, where you can get people out with offspeed stuff.
