NFL draft chat

John McClain -  Sorry. I was doing an interview that'll be on Chron.com Wednesday night and in Thursday's Chronicle, and I promise that you'll find it very interesting. By the way, I'm doing either columns or stories on the Texans every day through Saturday. Among other things, I'm writing about tight ends and running backs -- how they'll be used and what the expectations are for them.

Sorry about being late, but it was worth it.

any more undrafted players coming in?
11:55
John McClain -  Not right now. I think they'll sign a couple of more veteran free agents in the next wave.

who were u interviewing
11:56
John McClain -  I can't say because I don't want other media people going after this person before my story runs.

Looks like a solid draft for the AFC south teams. Are the colts still your pick for division winner?
11:58
John McClain -  I said I was going to pick the Colts until another team beat them. That was the Titans. I'm going with the Colts, Titans, Texans and Jaguars. I think the Colts (12-4) and Titans (13-3) won't be as good and the Texans (8-8) will be better. All three should make the playoffs.

what about Edgerrin James for the Texans?
11:58
John McClain -  They don't want washed up backs.

Where can I find a list of all of the Undrafted Free Agents - that the TEXANS have signed / looking at? THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR TIME AND WORK!

John McClain -

It ran in Monday's Chronicle and was on Chron.com immediately. It should be on Chron.com under the Texans/NFL section. By the way, the last guy, Rentmeester, a fullback from Wisconsin, ended up signing with the Chargers.

Hi John. Thank you so much for all of your hard work the past several months. You have made the draft process very enjoyable for fans! Can you please tell me a bit more about the FA RB's that the Texans signed? Do you think they are good and could make the team?
12:01
John McClain -  It's been my pleasure. Arian Foster is 6-1, 227. When he was a junior, he was one of the best prospects in the country. He blew out a knee, had surgery after the season, and wasn't the same last season when the Vols were terrible. He ran in the high 4.6s. In the NFL, the saying is that a player is all the way back from major knee surgery mentally and physically the second year. This should be the second year. Jeremiah Johnson, 5-9, 209, also overcame knee surgery and ran well last season. He wasn't drafted because he also ran in the high 4.6s. He played in a one-cut system.

Man,what a great draft for versatile players! I see a 10-6 or 11-5 season IF everybody stays healthy! How lame will the cowpokers be?
12:02
John McClain -  14-2. Let's put some pressure on them. They've been kind of quiet. I don't like it when the Cowboys are dull.

Rick Smith says Antoine Caldwell is here to compete for a starting job. Lil' Shanny says he's here for depth. Which is it?
12:02
John McClain -  Smith has no say in who starts or is benched. Kubiak makes that call. We all know that if he's good enough, Caldwell will start.

Considering Smith's comments on "ways to add players," do you see the Texans signing any FA running backs?
