Nathan Deal -  Good Morning Everyone. I am joining you this morning from the offices of the Republican National Committee in Washington. I regret that I’m not in Georgia, but Health Care is much too important and we are engaged in a serious fight. However, I’m glad to have the opportunity to chat with you.

How do you think the Alabama/Florida water problem will be resolved?
9:05
Nathan Deal -  Thanks Ethan, I think the fastest way to resolve it is for the three governor to reach an agreement. That agreement would then have to be embodied into federal law that changes the purposes for the water in Lake Lanier than includes human consumption. If that agreement is not reached, I will begin work on this on my first day as governor.

How will Medicaid requirements be affected by the Democrat proposals in Congress?
9:08
Nathan Deal -  The bill will require states to increase their Medicaid eligibility to 150 percent of the federal poverty level. This will be a very large increase in the number of people who will go onto Georgia's Medicaid roles. The promise is that the federal government will pay the additional share, but we know that promise will probably not be kept. That will place an additional cost for Georgia. That is why I am offering an amendment for states to opt-out of the expanded federal program.

Why is this so slow?
9:09
Nathan Deal -  I am reading and typing as quickly as I can. I appreciate your patience.

Are you guys going to be able to block the Obamacare nonsense, or at least change it?
9:14
Nathan Deal -  I have attempted to change and stop it at the committee level and will continue to do it when it reaches the House floor. However, Democrats have more than enough votes to pass it, if they can get their members to vote for it.
That is why your input into members of Congress is so important. We must persuade enough Democrat members to kill it or substantially alter it.
There is an air of excitement in Washington as people from all over the country are coming for the "House Call" event at noon today on the Capitol steps.
There are citizens on almost every corner speaking on microphones against the bill. There are vehicles bearing signs in opposition. I believe America has awakened to the serious challenge this poses to our country.

Do you believe that Barack Obama is a native-born American citizen who is eligible to serve as president? I am asking because your comments on this issue have been a little ambiguous. I would appreciate your clearing this up.
9:17
Nathan Deal -  I am joining several of my colleagues in the House in writing a letter to the President asking that he release a copy of his birth certificate so we can have an answer to this question.

Do you support zero based budgeting?
9:17
Nathan Deal -  I do. However, it will take time to go through the entire state budget and must be done in an incremental fashion. But now is the time to start that process.

What have you done to insure that our law enforcement officers can be allowed to verify citizenship when arresting a person committing a crime; and after verification that ICE must address their findings?
9:20
Nathan Deal -  I was a part of passing the law in 1996 that allowed local and state law enforcement officers to assist in enforcement of immigration law. It is called the 287g program. I am pleased that several sheriff's departments in my congressional district and in the state are participating in this program. I have continued to fight for full funding of this program, which will allow additional law enforcement agencies to participate.

What prompted you to leave Congress and move HQ to Gainesville, when we really need a strong speaker for the Republican party in Washington?
