Jeff Crouere talks about economic stimulus plan and its impact on Louisiana

11:02
Jeff Crouere -

The Stimulus Plan is now at $900 billion and growing. Some believe this money will help Louisiana and other states, while others are concerned that this will add to our national debt and prolong the recession. What is your view?

11:05
Jeff Crouere -

Governor Jindal said that if he were in Congress, he would have voted against it. However, he will probably accept the money if it is sent to Louisiana. Hypocrisy?

11:09
Jeff Crouere -  What I find sort of disturbing is that the stimulus plan is filled with pork, typical government spending and will add at least $1 trillion to the debt. Will we ever pay this money back?
11:16
[Comment From ep504]
How can this stimulus bill actually help some states in the U.S. while hurting others? If the general effect is negative, then where is the actual positive that could help states like Louisiana?
11:17
[Comment From Joe]
This plan is utterly ridiculous. Why are so many politicians lining up to support it? It does not make sense and is fiscally irresponsible.
11:19
Jeff Crouere -  Joe,

I think that the politicians are pandering to the masses and trying to act like they are doing something to address this situation. In fact, they are making it worse.
11:19
[Comment From Robert C.]
I hope the Senate can stop the bill. I hope then that it can get a pork-ectomy (a procedure to remove the pork). Then we'd have a starting point to discuss. Plus, isn't this stimulus merely a plan money over a long period of time? How is money in year 3 or later going to stimulate today's economy.
11:21
Jeff Crouere -

The Senate must stop this bill. Doing nothing is better than doing the wrong thing.

11:22
[Comment From TAT]
How do you propose to get the money sooner then? Give everyone a blank check?
11:24
Jeff Crouere -  The last thing we should do is send people a blank check, especially  people that do not pay taxes.
11:25
[Comment From Joe]
This stimulus is paid by the government which is us(our funds) given to us to stimulate the economy. Why should we pay into this stimulus inorer to get it back to us. There is a problem here.
11:25
[Comment From Bonnie]
Hi Jeff, I agree but really believe that the Senate will fatten it up even more than the House did.
11:25
[Comment From Dr Doom]
We are in for much much worse if the government stays involved with the free market
11:26
Jeff Crouere -  Bonnie,

The Senate has already fattened it up. It is now $900 billion and growing. What do contraceptives  have to do with an economic stimulus plan?
11:26
[Comment From Joe]
This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format: Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment? A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers. Q. Where will the government get this money? A. From taxpayers. Q. So the government is giving me back my own money? A. Only a smidgen. Q. What is the purpose of this payment? A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy. Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ? A. Shut up. Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely: If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China . If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If you purchase a computer it will go to India . If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico , Honduras , and Guatemala (unless you buy organic). If you buy a car it will go to Japan . If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan . And none of it will help the American economy. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.
11:27
Jeff Crouere -  Dr. Doom,

We need to get the government out of the economy, but unfortunately we now have the President telling corporations that they have to pay their executives only $500 K per year. If you accept government money, you have to live by government rules.
11:27
[Comment From TAT]
So are you suggesting no government intervention, allow these companies to go bankrupt, increase unemployment, and have everyone on welfare?
11:27
[Comment From Bonnie]
I know Jeff and agree. I believe they will add even more.
11:28
Jeff Crouere -  TAT,

How about government intervention in this way--reduce corporate taxes, reduce capital gains taxes. Give people an incentive to invest, give corporations an incentive to hire more people. Government needs to go on a massive diet, not become another Sweden.
11:28
[Comment From Bonnie]
No intervention works for me, TAT
