How do we know if the vaccine is safe without proper testing?
11:53
Paul M Mikus II MD -  Thomas,
This is something that hospital systems have been preparing for ever since the question of a looming pandemic was raised.   Hospital systems as a whole as well as private offices prepare by updates sent weekly by the CDC, AAP, ACP, and AMA.   First line of defense and preparation is to get the message out that we want people to contact their primary care physicians to help determine whether they need to go the the emergency room, office or whether home treatment is best.   If people follow this, we will try to keep people out of the hospitals that do not need to be there helping to decrease volume.     Then internal policies and procedures are in place to help keep ill patients away from patients coming in for non illness emergencies such as heart attack etc.   Thanks for your question

This vaccine is being prepared in the same fashion as the seasonal flu vaccination which has been tested and used for years.   In addition, healthy volunteers took this vaccine a few months back in order to initally help us determine any possible Side effects.   The Government has a special way for physicians to report any adversed side effects and these in turn are communicated to physicians in weekly updates

I have two DLEK cornea transplants. I am not sure if it is safe to get a flu shot. I recall the doctor saying flu shots might trigger rejection. What's the wisest course?
