I am in the fitness field, and while I am healthy, I am not stick thin. I was overweight in my childhood so I have a lot of stretch marks and saggy skin. For the most part I feel good about my body and what I can do, but when I am teaching a class, I am constantly thinking about what people expect me to look like. Do you have any advice for me?
11:31
I am sure you are great at what you do... and I'm betting that's what the people in your class are focused on. Do NOT let insecure thoughts bring you down. Life is too short... and you've worked hard to be healthy and fit (congrats!). If it makes you personally feel more comfortable ... share how far you've come with your group. I bet they'll appreciate knowing that you truly "get it". Keep up the terrific work!

Hi, I have a question for both me and my husband. We are Indian and in healthy range for BMI. But we both have what we call muffin tops around our waist. I am 5'3" and 108 lbs, my husband is 5'8" and 168lbs. what type of exercise and diet we can do to loose the belly fat? Thanks
11:39
This is a great question... so many people only focus on their weight number (while we now know that being normal weight but having excessive belly fat at the same time... puts you at greater risk for heart disease). Since it appears you eat well and certainly do not need to lose weight... your best bet is to mobilize the belly fat with exercise. The best type of exercise for this is continuous cardio for at least 30 minutes each day (brisk walking, jogging, biking, swimming laps, aerobic classes, dancing, etc.). The good news is that once you make the effort to lose your middle.... it tends to cooperate. Good luck!

They say losing weight at a rate of 1-2 pounds is healthy. The participants from the Today's Backstage Diet have been losing at an average rate (initially) faster than that. I understand much of it could be water weight. What is a realistic expectation of weight loss upon starting a diet plan?
11:45
At this point it's all real weight. here is how weight loss works. During the first few weeks on a plan... you can expect to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week. That's because you're typically eating dramatically less than you were before starting the diet AND that facilitates a combo of fat and water loss. By week three, you should aim for a weekly weight loss between .5 and 2 pounds. For the most part, that's what has begun to happen with our bakstage folks. I realize some of the guys have lost tremendous amounts thus far.... it just goes to show you how much JUNK they were eating before. OY! I am not worried with the rapid amounts of fat falling off their bodies because I know my menus are voluminous, healthy and balanced.   I guess everyone's body   has it's own agenda :-)

My husband and I enjoy eating healthy but have very busy schedules that sometimes get in the way of being able to spend a lot of time cooking. What ideas do you have for quick meals and inexpensive dining out options?

For dinner, how about browning ground turkey for tacos (you can buy the taco kits with the shells, seasoning mix and salsa -- simply chop a tomato, some lettuce and serve with shredded reduced fat cheese).... you can order in "steamed" Chinese Food and request their garlic sauce on the side (use 1-2 TB only) and order brown rice versus white..... also, it's super easy to grill, bake or pan fry in nonstick cooking spray chicken or fish (experiment with seasonings and low-cal marinades). Serve it up with fresh or frozen veggies and you're set.   If you want some starch, nuke two sweet potatoes.
