What is a realistic time frame for consumer perception of GM quality to catch up with current practice?
14:02
Rick Spina -  We've made significant quality improvement over the past few years, yet we know broad recognition can take 7-10 years.   Consistently strong results will accelerate that timeline.

What is Toyotas problems per 100 vehicles? What is GMs remaining products problems per 100 vehicles?
14:05
Rick Spina -  Today's JD Power Initial Quality Survey has Toyota nameplate at 101 and Chevrolet at 103 pph...statistically the same.

good job on the jdp survey. what do you think has helped GM improve in quality and what area do you need to work on the most to improve the quality gap?
14:07
Rick Spina -  We've had a cultural shift to intensify our focus on quality and putting the customer first.   A great number of individual initiatives are in place aimed at supporting the customer.

When will GM stop using "Initial quality" as a benchmark for their vehicles? How about "Best long term reliability and quality".
14:10
Rick Spina -  We're never going to stop because it's one important measure, but using initial quality is not our only measure of quality.   Just several months ago, we had good response to rolling out a JD Power dependability study; customer feedback on vehicles that are 3-years-old.   In fact, one of our four core brands Buick was atop the study.   We pay just as much attention to long term dependability as we do initial quality.
