How do I get back on track after a day of unhealthy eating, ie multiple brownies and slices of pizza?
11:22
Joy Bauer -  Start your new day with exercise... I find it's the easiest way to shake off the bad day and start a new day with a fresh, positive mindset. You'll feel refreshed and ready to eat smart.

Can I safely do 1000 calories a day? I walk 60 min each day on the treadmill but work in front of a computer for 8-10 hours a day.
11:23
Joy Bauer -  Yes... but if you feel lethargic, lightheaded or starving... add another 200-300 calories on to your day.

Dear Ms. Bauer, Thanks for doing the chat. How do you feel about someone using dietary pills to aid in weight loss?
11:24
Joy Bauer -  There are various types... which ones are you referring to?

Hi, how much is a healthy amount of weight to lose every week?
11:31
Joy Bauer -  You can expect to lose a dramatic amount during the first two weeks (that's because you're losing water weight along with fat -- and you're typically eating significantly less than usual). In fact, the average weight loss on my plan for the first week is 7 pounds... crazy, right?! After the first two weeks, you should expect and aim to lose "up to" 2 pounds per week. Some weeks it may be 1/2 pound and others it may be 2 pounds (this is considered healthy weight loss). In the end, as long as you're experiencing a downward trend on the scale, it's all good.

do I need to excercise (at least) 30 continues minutes or can I split it up 15 in the morning and 15 in the evening?
11:33
Joy Bauer -  You can certainly split the 30 minutes up -- even into 10 minute sessions (three times each day). Whatever it takes to incorporate the 30 minutes into your day will work! However you can get the exercise in....

Re: dietary pills. Such as Metabolite or Hydroxicut. I worry about taking them because I worry they might lead to dependence or what might happen to my metabolism after I stop taking them. I have never taken them, I prefer exercise and eating healthy.
11:38
Joy Bauer -  I worry too. My vote is for you to exclusively stick with calorie controlled eating and exercise.... we have MUCH more science to back these two things up (and there is no downside). The pills you mention are often more of a "psychological crutch" versus a true weight loss aid. You can do this without them!

What are your throughts on juice diets i.e. nothing but carrot juice for 3 days?
11:40
Joy Bauer -  bad news.. because a pure juice or vegetable fast is void of protein. Protein helps to rev your metabolism, maintain lean body mass, and stabilize your blood sugar level.

I have recently been told I have a sensitivity to wheat and wheat gluten. I find wheat gluten in many products. Can you suggest a good alternative meal for breakfast that is gluten free and low fat?
11:41
Joy Bauer -  1. Egg white omelet with fresh fruit on the side
