Dave, Tim. Could you give us a brief descriptions of where CMS disposal issue is now?
1:03
CMS is collecting about 150,000 gallons per day of water, treating it and sending it by truck to two locations, a deep injection well east of Gaylord and the Traverse City wastewater treatment plant.   This involves approximately 10-15 semi trucks a day leaving Petoskey and traveling across northwest Michigan roads.

What's the latest on the discussions with Petoskey about disposing of the leachate at the city wastewater plant?
1:07
Discussions continue with the city to determine if the city's wastewater treatment plant can accept water collected from East Park and Bay Harbor.   There are still a number of technical and regulatory issues that would need to be resolved before water could be sent to the city.

I read that CMS wants a permit to drill/create an injection well for disposal of leachate inside Bay Harbor. Is this feasible, geologically and pollitically?

CMS recently filed permit applications with EPA and DEQ to determine whether the geology at Bay Harbor would be suitable for a deep injection well.   The company had looked at this water disposal option in the past and did not pursue it because there is very little technical information available in Emmet County to demonstrate a well could be environmentally and technically feasible.   At the regulators' urging, CMS agreed to file the applications, but in the meantime is pursuing other local water disposal options.

Could this clean up process cripple CMS?

CMS has committed $177 million to address environmental issues at the site.   We have reserved this amount of money on our books and believe it is adequate to cover the current situation.

Would you swim in Little Traverse Bay at East Park?
