Birmingham Weekly -

It might take a while for results to come in. After the regular election, all results weren't done until after 10:30. The city is conducting its own election, as opposed to the county running it for them.

Birmingham Weekly -  Usually the voting machines have cell modems that send the results to a central computer. Later, data cards from the machines are fed into the central computer and the results are double-checked. When the city conducted the council election this year, they skipped the first step.

Birmingham Weekly -  All the results tonight will be unofficial. The results generally referred to as "official" are certified sometimes days after the election.
