The pitching matchup, well, you should know it by now. It's probably Hall of Famers Andy Pettite versus Pedro Martinez. There has been talk of these hurlers being able to cement their legacies tonight.

That talk is absurd. Andy Pettitte has 18 post season wins, four World Series rings and he's pitched in eight Fall Classics.
While he has a 3.91 career ERA, he has a career 229-135 record.

Pedro Martinez, of course, has three Cy Young Awards and is one of the 15 greatest pitchers of all time.

Victorino playing is huge
7:37
He's struggled offensively in this series, but he's such a big plus on the bases, in the field and with the spark he brings to the club.

[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
As a friend of mine noted earlier today, if Victorino sits, it affects three positions: Ibanez plays the field in left, Francisco plays center and Bruntlett would DH, a downgrade at all three positions
7:39
Wow, I hadn't even thought of the DH spot. That's a great point.
7:39
So, what's the key for the pitchers?
7:39
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
Plus, against Pettite, the Phils wouldn't want to have only one batter going righty against Pettite before Utley

Credit Mike Powell for pointing it out to me
7:40

Well, I would imagine Francisco would have slipped into the No. 2 hole.

7:40
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
yeah, that's scary
7:41
I keep thinking the distance the two starters can go is the key. I've been saying the Phillies will win if  Martinez pitches two more innings than Pettitte.   But what approach will these guys take.
7:41
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
For Pedro, the question is what the Yankees hitters learned seeing him five days ago
7:42
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
He gets by on guile. But what will they have figured out?
7:43
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
The Phillies can survive without scoring the first three innings provided the force Pettite to throw 60+ pitches
7:44

If he doesn't have command of his change-up it could be a bad night for the Phillies. The Yankees are a patient team, but if Pedro's change is working, he could force the Yankees to be overly aggressive.

7:44
[Comment From Jeff Frantz]
Two bases loaded, no run innings are a Phillies specialty. They're painful to watch, but they kill pitchers
7:44
They are a double-edged sword.
