UVa vs. Duke

12:07
TwitterLydiaMReynolds1 -  Hoping for a #uva victory over Duke. After a Tech loss & a UNC win on Thurs it would make this a perfect college football week LET'S GO HOOS
1:03
Twitterraphiellej -  A win for the Hoosiers would help the #uva BCS cred...trick
1:04
Twitterraphiellej -  #uva lost to William and Mary. The #CAA plays good football but that was inexcusable.
1:42
Twitterjustinhokie -  I cant believe #Iowa is losing to #Indiana after the whooping #uva put on them

roanoketimes -  Greetings everyone. Aaron McFarling here in Charlottesville, where we're more than an hour away from kickoff as UVa and Duke warm up on the field. Sunshine and comfortable temperatures at the moment, but the wind is blowing steadily, which may affect the Duke passing game. I'll be back with some pregame thoughts and notes starting around 3 p.m.

TwitterBrent_Watson41 -  @tikibar87 http://twitpic.com/npe5z - This is pretty funny. #UVA
2:25
roanoketimes -  I can't say I condone this, but that hasn't stopped me from chuckling. Let's try to keep it clean.
2:59
roanoketimes -  The obvious matchup today is the Duke passing game -- ranked No. 1 in the ACC and No. 6 nationally -- against the UVa pass defense, which is tops in the league and No. 5 in the country. The Cavaliers have dominated the series -- winning 17 of 20 overall and eight of the past nine -- but Duke did nab the win in Durham last year. We'll break down all the gambling implications here in a minute. Viewers of the Tech-UNC liveblog Thursday night -- and I know there were millions -- would have nailed the under. We'll find you a winner here too.

roanoketimes -  Indiana -- the same Indiana that was woeful against UVa a few weeks back -- is giving unbeaten Iowa quite a scare in Ames. But the Hawkeyes have rallied to take a 28-24 lead.
3:08
roanoketimes -  OK, UVa is favored by 7 1/2 and the over-under is set at 48. I think the O/U is about right here -- I'd lean toward the over but wouldn't touch it. You've got to take the Devils and the points here. Not saying they're going to win this one necessarily, but they've been playing well enough to stay in it until the end. There's your gambling special for today: Duke +7.5. To see Randy King's college picks and my NFL locks for tomorrow, check out http://www.roanoke.com/sportspicks/

roanoketimes -  Get your final yuks in on Brent's post. Sadly, I'm gonna have to kill it at 3:15. Think of the children!
3:27
roanoketimes -  As expected, the empty seats are plentiful here at Scott Stadium less than 10 minutes from kickoff. The people who are here are now sitting under gloomy skies. Looks like football weather to me.
3:29
roanoketimes -  In a shocking upset, CavMan was finally defeated today on the pregame "Adventures of CavMan" video. Just kidding. Another decisive win for the mustachioed maestro.
3:29
roanoketimes -  And the real CavMan stayed on his horse. Positive start for the Hoos.
3:32
roanoketimes -  UVa wins the toss and defers. Duke gets the ball first.
3:32
Twitterychaker -  i say F the game! honestly, 'Hoo in their right mind would go to watch Duke vs Virginia!? but plz, for the love of whomever, fire GROH! #uva
3:44
roanoketimes -  Will Snyderwine nails a 44-yard field goal to put Duke up 3-0 with 9:27 remaining in the first quarter. Nice first drive there for the Devils -- 11 plays, 60 yards -- before a big sack by John-Kevin Dolce on third down. Duke QB Thaddeus Lewis completed his first three pass attempts and also made several plays with his feet.
3:49
roanoketimes -  UVa tight end Joe Torchia drops an intermdediate pass on third down to complete a three-and-out for the Hoos on their first possession. A Mikell Simpson rushing attempt on second down went nowhere. The Hoos really need to get this runnign game cranked up. Nice punt by Jimmy Howell -- complete with good coverage -- sets the Blue Devils up first-and-10 at their own 14. 8:22 left in the first, 3-0 Duke.
3:51
roanoketimes -  Top costume seen in the stands so far (actually, on the hill) is a bunch of guys dressed as Tetris blocks. Love that game.
3:58
roanoketimes -  Nice breakup by Ras-I Dowling on a pass to the end zone forces Duke to settle for a 28-yard field goal by Snyderwine. It's now 6-0 Duke with 2:56 left in the first quarter. Lewis hit Austin Kelly wide open over the middle for a 33-yard gain on third-and-3 to keep the drive alive. That was one of three third-down conversions for the Devils, who are dominating time of possession thus far. Familiar theme, no?
