GR Press moderator -  Hello, everyone. Welcome to today's live chat with preps editor Jane Bos. She's received a lot of feedback from her Sunday column and wanted the opportunity to chat with the public about it.

GR Press moderator -  For those who might've missed it, here's the column:

[Comment From Jane Bos]
As a parent of young athletes and the daughter of coaches and an athletic director -- as well as an objective observor of sports for more than two decades -- I have seen plenty from parents in the stands.
12:01
Jane Bos -  I know it is hard to sit back and watch your children with quiet attentiveness, but I think it is important. Kids don't want their parents to be negative in the stands. I also know how hard it is not to do all you can to protect your kids.

the coach you mentioned in the paper made the statement upon his retirement that "he coached that way for 20 some years and I'm not willing to change" might that be part of the problem?
12:02
Jane Bos -  I am sure there are times when things do need to change. Times have changed and people are more politically correct, certainly.

Jane, can you blame a coach fro expecting the best from kids?....this coach might have been old school, but should he change everything he has beleived in and has seen work for 20 years?
12:05
Jane Bos -  I think, though, that parents cannot control the coach and how he acts. Parents also should not try to control their children and how they perform. They need to control themselves.

[Comment From Lou]
Too many parents nowadays have scholarship dollars ringing in their eyes.
