Warde thanks for this forum. I have two questions: 1) What is the status of facility upgrades (i.e. fieldhouse) 2) I know the drive is to be a MAC champsionship caliber team but I think the long term goal the community is yearning for is a perennial top 25 team in football and basketball. How do we get to that point?

Warde -

The fieldhouse is my primary goal for the benefit of our student-athletes, students, and community.   I have had several conversation with several potential donors that are/will consider potential donations to make that facility a reality.

The second question is so do I - I want us to be a top 25 team and get involved int he conversation about a potential BCS game bid.   We are working to that point now.   The fieldhouse will enhance our ability to attract and train recruits/student-athletes to help us to that end.

Thanks for the question.

When do you anticipate the complete men's basketball schedule being published?

Warde -

That's a good question.   I had hoped to have it available by now as we have been working intensely on it for the past 2 to 3 months, but we a couple of games to finalize before we release it to the public.   Hopefully we will be able to release it in the next couple of weeks.

As the football team continues to gain national exposure, how has the department's philosophy on scheduling games changed? Can we expect to see more BCS conference teams likes Pitt playing in Buffalo??
2:19
Warde -

Turner and I have talked from day one about the importance of scheduling for our overall success in conference and nationally.   We have been on the same page in terms of scheduling.

We were able to secure the current four game series with Pitt and the upcoming 4 game series with U Conn.   We have a home and home series coming up with BC in 2011 & 12 which will bring them here in 2012 and we will play a home & home series again with Baylor starting there in 2013 with a return from them in 14.   So we have series  in the future that will bring BCS Conference teams to  Buffalo.

I am a UB alum (graduated in '01) and live in the central Florida area and can not tell you how thrilled I am to be attending the UCF game. I expect UB to put out a good showing and beat the Knights. At any rate, you have done a marvelous job with the athletic program and my question to you is one that I think many have asked you already. What can we possibly do to keep Turner Gill at UB? Do you think it has hurt recruitment due to the fact that there is so much uncertainty surrounding Turner Gills future at UB?

Warde -

I am glad that you and other alumni/fans in Florida will be able to attend the game.   Thanks for the kind words.

As it relates to Turner - I am proud of and for him that he has garnered so much national attention because of his teams success on the field.   That brings a lot of visibility to him and to UB.  This league has a long and storied history of having coaches leave and go to "bigger" jobs - UB has not been in that conversation - yet.   While I hope that Turner is our coach for the rest of his career, and while a long shot with continued success - it could happen, he has definitely made this program better than when he arrived.   Regardless of what he decides about his career - I will be forver grateful to him if he decides to leave for a "bigger" job.

Now that being said we will continue to put our best foot forward to keep him here and happy at Buffalo.
