Inside the NHL -- Live Chat

10:23
Good morning. Thanks for showing up an hour  early. I like to have the chat at 11:30 every week for consistency's sake but ran into a snag this morning. Hey, sometime you need to adjust on the fly. What's this, Tom Watson is leading the British Open with a 65 and Tiger is 61st with a 71? Come Sunday, their positions could be reversed. OK, let's get into hockey.

[Comment From George]
Is there any chance we can trade either Tallinder, Lydman or Paille before the beginning of the year and actually sign someone with some talent like Tanguay?
10:26
There's a chance any or all could be traded. It's a matter of whether the Sabres are willing to trade them or    stubbornly insist they have all the answers in their lineup.  All three players have value a  trade could help Buffalo get others players. I wouldn't be in a hurry to trade Paille, by the way, at least not yet.  I also wouldn't be in a  hurry to  acquire Tanguay when there are other needs.

[Comment From Anselmo1]
When is Sabres management going to be truthful to Sabres fans? I agree with Rene Robert's assessment of the Sabres!
10:28
Their inactivity tells me that they've been true to the bottom line. I haven't seen any indication, really, that they're serious about making a strong commitment to winning the way other teams do. Hey, the building will be full. It seems to me that they equate that with success. You can agree or not with Robert's comments. At least the guy threw his opinion out there without being afraid.

[Comment From Andrew]
Looking at the roster on the Sabres website, they have 8 D listed. Personally I'd like to see Weber before DiPenta and Paetsch.
10:29
And you will. Dipenta is headed for Portland, I believe. Frankly, I thought the guy was out of the game only to see he played in Europe.

[Comment From Mark]
With all the salary cap problems Chicago is going to be in, shouldn't we atleast contact them and see if Patrick Sharp or someone else is available? Cam Barker maybe or Versteeg? I highly doubt there is anyway that we ever get Kane unless its at the end of his career.
10:31
Yes, yes and yes. I love guys like Sharp, in particular, because he plays both ends of the ice and leads by example. He's an underrated player, in my opinion. The Blackhawks will need to make some moves, and people aren't going to be happy with Stan Bowman when he's forced to make them. Bowman told me that Kane isn't going anywhere.

[Comment From Some Dude]
Do you think Ruff's comments about the team accurately reflect his diagnosis of it? Or is he just playing the good soldier to Quinn and Regeir?
