Mark Gaughan's Live Chat

11:03
Mark Gaughan -  Good morning football fans. Welcome to the weekly Friday NFL chat. The Bills made things a little more interesting for another week by winning in Carolina. They're 3.5 point underdogs Sunday against Houston. What do you think?

Shouldn't Bucky Gleason leave NFL columns to you and Jerry? Go back to Canada buddy.
11:05
Mark Gaughan -  First let me say, thank you for reading the paper. Second, the columnist's job is to be provocative ... I'm writing my Sunday Inside the NFL column on the state of disparity in the NFL - or to be more accurate- the bottom falling out of the NFL.

I'm looking forward to watching the match up between the Houston pass ofence and the Bills pass defense. Byrd and Wilson have both been pleasant surprises.

Mark Gaughan -  Yes. The Bills have been well coordinated ... They're going to have to be really good in the red zone. Keep a close eye on how they try to match up with TE Owen Daniels. The Texans move him around a lot - (something the Bills unfortunately don't do) ... Not sure how they're going to do that. ... The Bills could use Whitner this game ...

We were able to accomplish more with less when Marshawn was out. Now, with him in the lineup, the running game is doing less with more. Frankly, I expected a lot more from the rushing attack, even with the inexperienced O-Line. What gives?
11:09
Mark Gaughan -  Good question. I think the Bills' passing game is the root of the problems in the run game. It must be so easy for opponents to scout and game plan for the Bills offense. There's no movement, no need to adjust. The run game just hasn't had enough plays. ... I think defenses have a pretty good lock on what the Bills are doing ... which isn't hard.

Why is Fred getting carries in short yardage situations, and from bills' own goalline? Isnt marsh more effective in those situations?
11:10
Mark Gaughan -

First, Fitz admitted he fouled up that play. He tried to audible late, not everybody got the call, blown up. I see your reasoning, but I think Fred is just as good as Marshawn at getting an extra yard. I think they had an idea in that situation of the play they wanted to run (it wasn't he onne they ran) and Fred fit that play.

Hey Mark, Just read Bucky's article on the NFL, still think the NFL is a fun product and that covering the Bills for 10 years may of made his distain towards the NFL greater. All I have to say is this...what would you rather see Crosby vs Ovechkin or Manning vs Brady? Yeah...I go with the guys who will get 300 yards and 3 tds each then 2 guys who will be on the ice for 18 minutes a game
