Penn v. Columbia Live Game Updates

7:10
Evening, foilks. Matt Flegenheimer here at Levien Gym at Columbia, where the home squad is celebrating its senior night. Cornell booked its ticket to the Big Dance last night by trouncing the Quakers, so this one  has no bearing on the conference champ -- not that it would have anyway. Columbia hopes to clinch a winning Ivy season (they stand at 7-6 now), while the Quakers must win out here and at Princeton Tuesday night just to reach .500. Keep it with the Buzz all night for updates on the action.
7:11

Starters for Penn: Zack Rosen, Rob Belcore, Harrison Gaines, Brennan Votel, and Jack Eggleston

For Columbia: K.J. Matsui, Joe Bova, Kevin Bulger, Dan Trepanier,  and Jason Miller

7:15

Matsui drills a three to get Columbia on the board first. Votel answers with a nice turnaround off the block. The teams trade a couple bricks, before Columbia's Steve Egee (brother of Penn senior Kevin) nets a mid-ranger. 5-2 Lions.

7:19
Lions freshman Noruwa Agho knocks down a couple free throws. Rosen converts a nice transition lay-in with the right hand (his off hand). 7-4 Lions, 15:30 to go in the half.
7:26
Rosen drains the free-throw for a three-point play, then Kevin Egee knocks down a three to give Penn its first lead on the next possession. After a Columbia travel, Rosen a three of his own to put the Quakers up four. Zack Crimmins tips on a missed jumper for the Lions to make it 11-9.
7:31

Kevin Bulger hits an off-balance jumper to tie it up. Egee responds with another triple. Bulger puts in a baby hook to make it 14-13. Penn senior Cam Lewis banks in a short one and draws the foul, and the fans get to embark on the adventure that is a Cam Lewis free throw attempt.

7:32
Lewis front-rims it, but Egee gets the rebound in traffic and hits a one-hander in the lane. 18-13 Penn.
7:38
Joe Bova hits a gimme for Columbia off a loose ball; Gaines bricks a three at the other end. Agho cuts the lead to one with a dribble-drive. The crowd is oddly loud for such a meaningless game -- or maybe it's just the idiot behind me banging  the cowbell.
7:43
Bova sticks a three to put Columbia back in front, then Matsui nets another after a Lions stop. Egee stops the momentum with a baseline floater, and Matui is whistled for a charge to give the Quakers possession. 23-20 Lions, 2:42 to go in the first.
7:50
Eggleston hits a pair of free-throws after drawing contact underneath. At the other end, Steve Egee  converts his second field goal of the game to push the lead to three, and his brother misses a three at the other end. A couple of ugly possessions on each side bring a merciful end to the half with the Lions up 25-22.
