I'm an incoming grad student, but have yet to secure funding. What is the best route to take for a last-minute student with no cash?

Maryann, you, of course, should fill out the FAFSA aid form to see what sort of scholarships and grants you might qualify for. Many schools have their own money that they dish out to worthy students. But if you must borrow, do so from the federal loan program first. As a grad student, you will be able to borrow more than you can as an undergrad. There is a grad Plus program that works like a parent Plus loan but is geared for graduate students.

Can you outline the process for subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans? How does it differ for undergrad vs. grad? How long does the process take?
