Live Blog - SIO Round 8
5:39
Hello guys...welcome to round 8..
5:42
A special guest today was former Aussie Champion Fred Flatow. He was seen walking around observing the set up here as well as the simul outside. We asked him to have a go but he politely refused.
5:43
Also here now is NSWCA boss Bill Gletsos, see in an expensive looking NASA leather jacket.

Hi Amiel
5:46
Yo...what's up?

[Comment From Tony Chow]
Greetings Amiel. Did you manage to score a point in Rd 8?
5:48
No...a draw. A lucky one...My opponent was kicking the bejesus outta me, but my staunch defence held forth. According to Fritz, he was winning but our frail human brains couldn't see a breakthrough for him.

well patting the cat right now

Other visitors today were such familiar names as Abraham Stzern and Stephen Javor.

I guess congrats on the draw

Stzern participated in the simul today and managed to checkmate the simul giver! He said even at his age these days he can still manage to bamboozle some people.

You are obviously watching the games and walking around to have a look now and again, have you seen anything very exciting? how are any of my fellow Victorians going?
5:53
How about my mate FM James Morris? Just before hostilities this morning he walks up to me and said he'd murder his opponent! OTB, of course. There will be blood. But Rathnakaran was in no such mood. After just half an hour so, Morris' K was bare and teased out of its hole all the way down to enemy territory. After an Indian N check, it was all over
5:55
And my other good mate, Voonie, faced yet another KID this morning, too. HK's Bryan Lee should have known that Voonie holds the KID in contempt. It's an "unsound defence", says Voonie. Sure enough, he was victorious.

Fred Flatow on the right there...An all round nice fella, he is still active but restricts his chess mainly to club level comps. He's a long-time member of my former club Canterbury. I scored a point off him once, some 10 years ago now I think in an allegro tournament. Man, I was happy about that.

George's style of play is agressive dynamic i hope that sacked pawn gives him compensation, white's pieces seem a bit more active..but i doubt it's worth a pawn...however he's playing fr a win so he can cruise in the draw in the final round...go george!!
