trends which have captured attention
  • Mobile devices
  • multi apping devices
  • flip cams
  • audio recording
  • tablet
  • iPods, iPod touch
  • everything becoming mobile

wonderings?
4:57
making sense of these developments

discussions from floor

issues mac vs PC
time wasting - ??? don't they always do it.

How the devices have changed over the past 30 years

portable, touch, cheap, stylus - trends

5:14
Arguing the debate
- personal technologies should be banned from school
hahaha I have to argue this???? LMAO
ummm
Affirmative
time wasters
distracting
could lose their things, cause fights
inequality

Negative
important in students lives, so we should therefore value them
can't just ignore something that is here to stay

- teachers are ill equipped to use the personal technologies students bring from home
Positive
teachers should not be thrown into using these techs with no support
financial constraints
teachers will never be equipped, until they become as engaged as our students are
Negative
teachers are as much into the uptake of tech as kids are
as well equipped with this tech as we have ever been with whatever tech has been developed

- personal tech are a poor return on investment
positive
if our role is to teach and assess students does this really come under the umbrella of what we need to teach?
negative
gives students another way to develop 24/7 learning
collaboration

Other thought - is the way we are examining/assessing students appropriately for the way they use digital technologies?

Personal Technology

It Depends
  • Learning Technologies
  • Learning Spaces
  • Finance - parents, college,

each school will have a different vision
check which computers will be most cost effective
teachers using the tech need to become a critical mass

5:23
Idea - to create an environment at BHS to provide the best learning at each stage of development

Create - Yr 7 Macbook
Capture and Connect - touch technology Year 9 (Cost prohibitive at this stage)
internet based (iWorks, Google wave, wikis, blogs, web 2.0) - VCE

5:27
It Depends
  • Teacher Capabilities
  • Learning needs of the students
  • suitability of the tech to the curriculum program

Think about the tech sequence

5:28
The Age
  • Paper
  • electronic
