One thing I have noticed about men's fashion is that everyone tries to sell us cargo pants and shorts but it is very rare to a decent pair of wool cargoes on the racks. Is this some kind of fashion no-no for men?
11:09
Philly.com -  Hello Robfromthen. I like wool cargos on a man, so I don't think it's a fashion no-no. But while I like them, I think cargos are too sporty. Get yourself some flat-front slacks and project a grown up suave image.

Ah yes, the grown up look. I guess the time is upon me.

my question is in regards to khakis and spring colors such as yellow and coral when should I not wear light color khakis and spring color button downs does the labor day rule apply to thos as well
11:17
Philly.com -

Good questiion, Fred. I'm a firm believer in dressing for the season, but not the seasons that have been thrust upon us like Labor Day. It just so happens that this year, Labor Day hit us late, so summer clothing in September just feels kind of odd this year. That means, yes, keep your seersucker tucked away for now until next May, white shorts, too. (If you put them on this morning, you would have just looked cold) Coral is still OK. But you must temper it with brown, not white. It's time to transition from light blue to a navy as well. Hope that helps.

Philly.com -

P.S. Trade in those khakis for a pair of dark washed denim. Much more hip and definitely in season. Or try a pair of grey flat-front dress slacks. If you must wear pleats, choose a pair that has just one or two. Three or four pleats at the waist is just passe.

I saw your story on that Fashion's Night Out event. I've read other fashion writer's takes on the event and they all seem supportive, however your piece had a some what negative tone. why?
11:31
Philly.com -

Hi D, You should check out the Rittenhouse Row Fall gathering. It's similar to the event at King of Prussia. All (or most ) of the retailers are taking part in it and there will be cocktails and giveaways.

11:33
Philly.com -  Hi Kathleen: Actually, I think the idea of Fashion's Night Out is a good one. I just think it's hard to be a booster of shopping in these tough economic times. Especially buying expensive items at full price. We have to keep the perspective and I thought if I didn't mention it I would be remiss. Then I'd be accused of being a booster for spending at any cost. Just trying to strike a balance. I'm sorry if you thought my tone was negative.

I see in i magazine that isaac mizrahi said that it was time to move on from peep toed shoes, but in this economy is anyone really going to move on after investing money in peep toed shoes last year, people aren't ready to move on.
11:37
Philly.com -  That's good point. I think he was giving his opinion. You have to do what your pocketbook can afford. I think peeptoed shoes will look great this year with contrasting patterned tights.

Isn't that the problem with all fashion this year. Do the retailers really expect us to spend money on clothes this season? I just don't see anything that is a must have which I can justify spending money on at this point
11:39
Philly.com -  Hmmm. That may be so, RS. But there are a few things that I'd like to buy. A pair of riding boots, a couple of cardigans, a hot leather jacket and a feathergrey pencil skirt. I know the economy is stiff, but if you find one thing that you would like to buy, whether it be a signature scent, or a new scarf, I'm sure you will feel better / (At least a little.)

patterned tights with peep toed shoes, not sure I agree, but as with patterned tights, I saw a pair of tartan patterned tights in the window of the BCBG store on walnut. Any thoughts of tartan patterned tights? My guess they'd look good on a pencil thin model, but what would you wear them with?
