I didn't file my Louisiana taxes in 2006. I worked in Mississippi and stupidly thought I didn't have to file La taxes. I received a letter saying I owed hundreds of dollars in penalties and taxes. Can I file 2006 taxes now? Would I still have to pay taxes and penalties?
12:09
Earl Millet -

As a resident of Louisiana, you are required to file a resident return. Credit can be claimed on the return for taxes properly due and paid to another state.   You may file a 2006 to report the correct taxes due.   The link to that site is

I would like to know if I owe the state taxes for 2008 can I call and make payment arrangements if I do not have the money at this time? Thank You for taking my question

Earl Millet -  You may enclose with your state return an Installment Request for Individual Income.    The form can be accessed on our website and is form number R-19026.   Please note that  if you receive a  billing notice, you should send in a  second copy of that form.   The form can be found at www.louisiana.revenue.gov.   Click on Tax Forms, then Individual, then All.   From there scroll down to the form.

Do we need to file state extensions this year?
12:14
Earl Millet -

Yes, we require that a state extension or a copy of a federal extension be filed by May 15, 2009.   See the information provided below.

https://webtax.revenue.louisiana.gov/Scripts/WebEncore.dll?Index.html

Taxpayers have four options for requesting a state income tax filing extension (see Revenue Information Bulletin No. 09-005):

1. File a paper state extension Form R-2868.

2. File an extension request electronically via Louisiana File Online (fileonline.revenue.louisiana.gov), the Department of Revenue’s free online tax filing application.

3. File a paper copy of the IRS extension Federal Form 4868 with LDR on or before the due date of the Louisiana individual income tax return (generally May 15th).Federal and state extensions may be faxed to the Department of Revenue at 225-231-6211 or mailed to:

I submitted a state tax return for a deceased individual in 2007 as executor of the estate. I then recieved a state tax refund check in the deceased name. I returned the check and submitted the officical form for the check to be made out in my name as the officical executor of her estate so that I might complet all of the estate issues. I have submitted 3 letters since Nov. 2008 asking for a response, but none as of yet. Do you have any suggestions. Thank you very much for any information.

My office did not have electricity for one week after Gustav, I paid my two receptionist their normal salary even though we could not see patients with out lights. There was minor damage to the office so I did not file a claim for physical damages, is their any tax credit possible for this loss of income and expenses? Thank you, Dr.Charles L Seaman, Optometrist

I am trying to calculate the correct amount of tax to send (without overpaying or underpaying) with my extension. What is the simplest way to determine that amount? Please know that I have looked at the instructions but have more questions rather than answers after attempting that route.
12:19
Earl Millet -  While there is no exact formula, you may use the prior year's information as guide provided there are no significant changes in income levels or any other information that may be available.

Why is it that when we backfile it takes so much longer for your check to come and why do they not let you set it up on direct deposit?
