Crappy Hour with Alex Pareene, July 14, 2009

8:48
Megan -  After watching all 3.5 hours of Sotomayor hearings, I have to say, I'm not impressed by the Republicans lack of creativity here. If they're going to try to Bork Sonia Sotomayor, they're going to have to step it up or pull a Lindsey Graham and get a lot more respectful.
8:51
Pareene -  They should all pull a Lindsey Graham and just ramble in a bipolar fashion for twenty minutes.
8:52
Pareene -  I can't wait to hear more from him! "I have to say, you don't seem that bad, I like you, but you hate freedom, I'm told, and lots of people will have problems with your reverse racism, and not me, necessarily, and I will probably vote for you, I dunno, but other people will not, and that's ok, but you'll probably be confirmed, I guess, second amendment."
8:54
Megan -  I just wanna see, like, Kyl or Cornyn get up and say, "Judge Sotomayor, lets all be frank here. We've got a base to excite, we've got no idea what we're doing politically, but we saw the same McCain-Palin rallies you did and how all those people got all excited when there were racial code words used and we kept calling Obama a Commie and shit, so we're just going to stick with those tactics here rather. But I want to acknowledge that it doesn't have anything to do with you per se, it's just our base hates brown people. So, you know. You're a racist."
8:55
Pareene -  Yes a little truth would be nice. And honestly a couple Republicans did kinda give the game away when they wouldn't shut up about how Barack Obama voted against THEIR judges so it's only fair that they get to vote against HIS judge!
8:56
Pareene -  The whole process would be done in an hour if Republicans just stood up and said "I am not voting for you because Barack Obama nominated you, no offense."
8:57
Megan -  Also, I'm really looking forward to seeing Jeff Sessions talk more about how important it is for a judge to not be racist and stuff, given his judicial appointment was scuttled by his own party because of his overt racism. But the good people of Alabama saw fit to make him their Senator.

And, oh, God, rather than two days of questions? Absofuckinglutely.
9:01
Pareene -  I mean, if the GOP wants to let Grand Wizard Sessions piss away anty hope they might've ever had of winning the Latino vote at some point in the next 30 years, who am I to stop them? I will merely sit back and wait for the handwringing editorials about how they JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND why minorities don't get with the program and vote for them.
9:03
Pareene -  But their witness list is a veritable rainbow coalition! Linda Chavez! Peter Kirsanow! The lady who loves guns!
9:04
Megan -  Why would minorities not vote for the hip hop party?

Besides, we all know it's more important to score political points with your own white, frustrated male base than think strategically about how to rebuild your party, salvage its brand and begin winning elections by attracting new voters. They can just sit back like Rush Limbaugh and wait for Obama to fail and then win. I mean, his approval waiting has already slipped to 57%! They're withing shooting distance!
