Penn State Live Chat 11/16

Now that Penn State appears to be holding on for dear life again as the season ends ... let's get to it.

Questions, please...

Any insight to what happened at the end of the game last year? I know Dantonio was miffed about either throwing deep with Devlin or using timeouts late in the game to celebrate the seniors. What have you heard? I see Sparty coming out with a huge chip on their shoulder looking to murder a wounded Penn State team.

I think Coach D was upset about both things, the timeout (s) and the long TD pass from Devlin to Deon Butler.
And I think Sparty will come out fired up.
What decides the game, though, is what attitude  Penn State brings.

Special teams.....seriously... How can JoePa defend them with a straight face?
8:12

Well, Mojo, Joe will defend his players and assistants because that's kind of his job, at least in public. He doesn't throw a lot of the "family" under the bus.

But we know, publicly or privately, that Penn State may have the worst combined special teams effort in the nation this season. And that's alarming, to say the least.

More specifically on special teams, what is up with their punt return formation? Meaning, having 2 guys back to field the punt. It doesn't seem to be working, why not go with a traditional return setup?

Excellent question! And the answer is ... who knows?!?!

Put it this way, why is  a defensive end coming off two knee surgeries back there returning kickoffs? Nothing making sense.

Oh, Curtis Drake, where have you been?

PENN STATE LOOKS LIKE A TIRED,UNINSPIRED TEAM.

That's apparently the word from inside the program, too. The key vets, like defensive tackle Jared Odrick, don't get a lot of plays off to rest and 12 weeks straight is pretty grueling.

Will Evan Royster go pro after the season?
