Ted, how do you think our defensive line has looked during spring practice?
12:02
Ted Lewis, T-P -  It's been pretty impressive because you have seen guys like Casey  Blum and Justin Adams challenge and in some cases beat out guys with more experience. Reggie Scott should thrive as a three-technique DT and Chris Asumnu is going to a real force. This is the deepest spot on the defense. Too bad they can't trade a couple of linemen for linebackers.

What has been a key differnce in your opinion on the improvement of the baseball team?
12:05
Ted Lewis, T-P -  Josh Prince talked to me the other day about a team meeting that was held after the Friday night loss at Central Florida. Everyone agreed they were putting too much pressure on themselves and to just relax and play baseball. Since then, they've won five of six. I was particularly impressed with Sunday's victory because it was a pressure situation - East Carolina is a terrific hitting team and holding them to three runs made that the best win of the year.

ted, thanks for your terrific coverage this year. what is the word on whether or not segedin and broach will play baseball this season?
12:07
Ted Lewis, T-P -

Right back at ya, Richard. Kind words are always appreciated. I don't think there are any plans to use Broach. Segedin still hasn't been cleared to play and they're running out time, so I would think it's more doubtful each with each passing day.

What's your opinion on our football schedule each year? Do you think we're playing the right kind of competition -- outside the conference I mean.
12:10
Ted Lewis, T-P -

To me. the non-conference schedule is what Tulane needs. LSU - a game to interest fans. BYU - a home game against a quality opponent. McNeese - a AA in-state that should be winnable and Army - showing the flag for the alums in the Northeast plus a team that Tulane should beat, despite recent history.

Seriously, can anything LESS than winning the Conference Tournament get us in the Regionals?
12:12
Ted Lewis, T-P -  With an RPI in the 80s it would take pretty much running the table. Beating LSU next week would help, of course but a sweep of UNO is necessary and no more than 2-3 conference losses. It's doable, but I wouldn't count on it.

Do you see Moritz coming back in the rotation
12:13
Ted Lewis, T-P -

Not right now. Ryan has pretty well established himself at third. Moritz did start in left on Sunday but didn't do much.

I think the special teams improved greatly during the season last year - how do they look in Spring practice?
12:15
Ted Lewis, T-P -  Which special teams were you looking at - the one that had five FGs blocked, was using a linebacker to return kicks, etc. There is so little work done on special teams in spring practice that it's hard to get a handle, but there's nowhere to go but up.

What are your thoughts on basketball's failure to sign a big man so far? How did Washington land with Houston?
12:17
Ted Lewis, T-P -  Not getting Kendrick Washington was a major blow. I don't know the details of how Houston signed him, but one must guess that it had more of what Kendrick was looking for. Signing quality big men in the spring is always difficult and obviously this is a problem for Tulane.

Have you been in contact with Troy Kropog at all? Mock drafts show him both hot and cold and possibly going all over the country. Some even say he should be put in as a guard and not a tackle.
12:18
Ted Lewis, T-P -  I'm not handling any draft coverage this year because it conflicts with Tulane's spring game and a home baseball weekend. One report I saw on Troy is that he's a good technique blocker but lacks strength. I am sure he will land with the right program and has the potential for a solid career.
