McClain's NFL combine chat

11:34
John McClain -  Before we get started, I'd like for you to check out some videos we've been doing. The series with Rice tight end James Casey continues. Anna-Megan Raley and Adam Ariganello went to his apartment to shoot a video that should be posted today. Also today, Anna-Megan and I sat down with Barry Warner, who works for ESPN the Ticket, Fox Sports Southwest and Asian Southwest Media.

Warner, 65, came to Houston from his native Buffalo as ordered by Al Davis during the war between the AFL and NFL. Our three-part series, Before There Was A Combine, has Barry describing scouting and drafting and all the illegal activity that went on at the time. It's pretty amazing. Please check it out.

Now, let's get on to this chat. Remember, I'll be chatting Thursday and Friday at 11:30 from the combine and again next Tuesday.

How many guys do we have now in our secondary that YOU feel can contribute for the next season? At a high level I mean.
11:35
John McClain -  Dunta Robinson, Jacques Reeves, Fred Bennett and Alex Molden at corner. Eugene Wilson (if they can re-sign him), Dominique Barber and Nick Ferguson at safety. I would say an acceptable level for some.

which college players need the NFL Combine ?
11:41
John McClain -  Just about every player does. Even if a player doesn't work out, he still meets with every team. They want to see his personality before they invest millions. Small-college players obviously. Before the combine, who paid attention to Chris Johnson and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie?

So now that we have our BIG 3 on Offense, where else on the O side do we need to improve thru the draft other than the bigger back?
11:42
John McClain -  The offense ranked third. The problem was turnovers by the QBs. They need depth in the line.

have you heard anything new from the dunta contract negotiation
11:43
John McClain -  Nothing since yesterday. They've kept everything close to the vest. I think he'll get guaranteed money somewhere between Chris Gamble's $23 million and Corey Webster's $20 million. If he wants more than that, he's gone, but I can't imagine another team offering him more than that. I think if both sides compromise, he'll get $20 with a chance to make more based on incentives.

Man our team is so great they just are so much better than those THUGS up north. Isnt it just great having a team with REAL character instead of a bunch of OVERPAID UNDERACHIEVERS?
