theother66 -  Action Research

It's about ACTION
It's about RESEARCH
11:03
Twittertheother66 -  listening again to Rob Stowell's ideas about how to manage an Action Research project for Assessment for Learning http://bit.ly/3yGTzy #cb-a
11:06
theother66 -  Action Research Cycle:

- Identify problem
- Develop action plan
- Collect & analyse & reflect
- Use and share
11:12
theother66 -  Plan
- Research question for the project
- What will happen or change?
- Who will be involved? Who will do what and how will you support them?
- What data (evidence) will need to be collected?
- Set Timelines and milestones
- Record and share results
- Plan 'B's' (Risk Management Strategies)
11:13
theother66 -  Action
- staying within the scope of the project
- communication strategies are important
- recording and keeping track is very important
11:14
theother66 -  Observe:
- Be open about what's happening about the project - take a 'helicopter' view
- regularly seek feedback from stakeholders
- report about the progress
11:18
theother66 -  Reflection
- involves a certain amount of professional judgement
- focus on the positives and look for learnings from the negatives (or barriers)
- don't be afraid to change the direction of the project, depending on the needs and the observations of what's happening within the project
- management involvement is critical
- consider the levels of support avaiable to the project - administrative, managerial, project personnel, - your definitely not on your own
- plan for the next cycle of action research, but it is a project, so it will have an 'end'
- consider debriefing after the project and capturing outcomes beyond the life of the project
11:40
theother66 -  Judy Forbes is also recording these workshops here: http://bit.ly/3af5Fg
11:58
theother66 -  Features which underpin a Research Questions:

- researchable - within our resources
- ethical
- managable
- have a clear problem or issue
- can a collective group achieve it
- relevant to the group involved (collective ownership, pursuation strategies, needs to be relevant to the organisation and have management buy-in)
- interesting to the researcher
- collaboratively developed
- establishing new findings
- based on what you already know about the situation
- is the idea 'novel' or different
- discovery is not about finding something new, but about looking at things with fresh eyes
- produce something which can be shared and disseminated
12:17
theother66 -  What do we need to find out?

- Consider what we/the team already know
- Consider how people 'feel' about the project question/idea
