Business Line -  Dollar down against global currencies

MUMBAI: The dollar lost ground on Wednesday after hitting a one-month high against a basket of currencies, while Asian stocks edged higher in muted trade ahead of central bank meetings that kept investors wary.

Oil fell for the first time in three days after a 2 per cent surge on Tuesday and gold eased after hitting a record high.

The dollar lost 0.1 per cent to 76.336 against a basket of currencies after climbing as far as 76.817, its highest since early October.

The greenback also lost 0.1 per cent against the yen.

Rupee opens higher against dollar.

The rupee rose on Wednesday tracking higher regional units and gains in Asian stock markets, which could prompt foreign investors to bring in more funds into the local market.

At 9.30 a.m. the rupee was at 47.17/18 a dollar, stronger than its previous close of 47.40/41.
