How severe has the flu season been so far this year?
5:03
KOB.com -  So far, the majority of people who have gotten H1N1 have had mild illnesses which were managed successfully at home, and they have returned to work or school after a few days.   Many many people are in this category.   There are some  groups who have been more likely to get H1N1, including people younger than 24.   There have been 12 deaths in New Mexico so far, with 4 pediatric deaths, a pattern that is similar throughout the US.   The virus is being monitored for severity and for changes in its structure, and so far there have been no major changes in the virus since last spring.

My wife is still breastfeeding our 7 month old. Will this benefit the baby if my wife gets a flu shot, or does the baby need one too?
5:13
KOB.com -

Breastfeeding provides many benefits, and it's great that your wife is breastfeeding.   The recommendation, though,  is that all children over 6 months of age receive the vaccine.

When are we just regular folks (no special risk factors) going to be able to get the H1N1 flu shot?
5:17
KOB.com -  We're asking that those of us who are healthy and have no big risk factors for flu be patient while the initial supplies come in, so the most vulnerable people can be vaccinated first.   We have been told that we'll have good vaccine supply  in the state for anyone who wants it eventually, but exact dates aren't available right now.   There will be public notices of clinics when supplies are good.   In the meantime, thank you for being patient during this time  of initial smaller supplies.

When will there be free regular flu shots given at UNMH? I have no health insurance, I do not qualify for Welfare, and can not pay between 30 and 50 dollars for a flu shot.
