Live Texans chat

Chronicle Sports -  Thanks for joining us this week. John McClain will join us shortly.
11:32
John McClain -

This is the most fun I’ve had covering the Texans. I imagine it’s the most fun you’ve had being a fan. When I see organizations like Washington, Cleveland, Oakland and others, it makes me appreciate the way the Texans operate. They may not always be right, and they may make some unpopular decisions, but they operate in a consistent manner.

As always, I’ll try to answer as many of your questions as possible. I’m going as fast as I can. And let me apologize ahead of time to anyone who’s offended by my answers and to those I can’t get to your questions because of time restrictions.

Now, let's get it started.

Will Frank Okam be part of the Texans rotation again this season or is he time with the Texans over?
11:33
John McClain -  Okam has been inactive unless somebody is hurt or ill as Cody was one game. Bill Kollar has gone lighter at tackle and more active, which is one reason the run defense has done so well. I don't see Okam playing unless somebody is injured.

So what do you think the chances are on Sunday, John?
11:34
John McClain -  The Texans are 0-7 at Indy. They've been outscored 34-17. The closest they came was last season when they lost by six. I'm going with Indy.

Hello general. Do you feel Houston has to go 2-1 the next three games to be considered a credible playoff threat or will 1-2 still accomplish that?
11:34
John McClain -  They better win two of the next three.

john, Any word on the open roster spot? any tight ends brought in to look at ?
11:35
John McClain -  I think they'll promote somebody from the practice squad and sign a TE or two to the practice squad. They have plenty of wideouts so they don't need to force anything at TE.

why can't the coaches have this team ready to play both halves of a game?
11:36
John McClain -  What are you talking about? The defensive coaches had their players ready from start to finish.

[Comment From Ray Soto]
Do you feel that OD being gone for the season is really as bad as they say it is? I don't because we have the talent and offensive scheme to spread the ball around efficiently.
11:36
John McClain -  OD was playing as well as any TE in the league, but they have enough talent to move the ball without him. I think Kevin Walter will get more balls thrown to him. I think Joel Dreessen will fool some people. He's no OD. but he's not too shabby.

Why do people think moats should be the starter after one game. We did play against the worst rushing defense? Once Slaton fixes his problem he should be the starter. What you think?
11:37
John McClain -  I think Moats is quicker to the hole and makes Slaton look slow. This wouldn't be an issue if Slaton could hold the ball. Five fumbles at this point is preposterous. I'd start Moats and play Slaton in passing situations.

[Comment From Shay]
Good morning, General! 5 & 3 and rolling into Indy. Can we get enough pressure on Manning to have a chance?
11:38
John McClain -  If they blitz, they play right into his hands. If they don't, he just waits until receivers get open. They better run, run and run and throw short passes to keep him on the bench. Oh, and they better score when they cross midfield.

[Comment From RIO2016]
John, last week you said Moats "cant hold Slaton's jock". Did last week's performance change your mind?
11:38
John McClain -  It sure did. I'm on the Moats bandwagon as a runner. He's not the same blocker, though.
