There are three games that will decide outright district championships: Parkway at Haughton (1-4A), Loyola at North DeSoto (1-3A) and Arcadia at Haynesville (1-1A). In addition, Mansfield, which is 32nd in the unofficial power ratings, faces Red River. A win likely puts Mansfield in the 2A field.

Offensively, you have to look at Evangel receiver Eric Thomas Jr. as one of the top candidates. Defensively, things are a little more wide-open. Bossier linebacker Trenton Parson has been impressive as has Parkway's defensive line duo of Kenny Johnson and Josh Howard. Then there's the defending Defensive POY -- Evangel's Jermauria Rasco.

4:06	[Comment From Jason Pugh] In the area, Homer's Tony Casey has been amazing, as has Many's DJ Palmer and Logansport's DaKendrick Wilson. Defensively, Minden's Rod Cook has been a tackle machine.

Without a doubt. I never had the pleasure of watching his brother, Richie, play at Homer, but Tony Casey has been every bit as impressive as Richie. The situation the Pelicans are in -- losing starting QB Jarvis Morgan the week before the season -- only magnifies Casey's importance and skills.

A large enrollment and affluence doesn't always equal success on the football field. Airline enjoyed a stellar run of success in the mid-1990s then again in the late 1990s. This year, the VIkes' biggest problem is a lack of big-play ability. Airline is a team that's built to win ugly and struggles in shootouts.
