Linden Division 2 wrestling regional

5:43
I'm out here at Linden, about 17 minutes before the scheduled 6 p.m. start of the Kearsley-Linden and Lapeer East-Oxford semifinals.
5:45
The gym certainly looks a lot different than I remember it. I graduated from Linden in 1981 when we had this icky light green motif going on. It's nice to see the state championship cross country banner hanging in the gym. I ran cross country in 1980 for Linden, so there's a little bit of pride in seeing what has always been a very good program go all the way. I saw a hockey team photo in the showcase from 1980-81 that I was in. I didn't get a chance to look around for the 1980 GEC cross country championship trophy that has a team photo I'm in. I must quickly add, I had nothing to do with that championship. I was along for the ride, 15th man on a 17-man team.

They're going to start the matches at 189 tonight.
5:51
Oxford is the defending regional champion and is the overwhelming favorite to win this regional. The Wildcats are 33-2 and beat Linden (24-12) 50-22 in a dual meet on Jan. 21 and 248.5 to 161 in the Metro League tournament. Oxford is ranked No. 3 in Division 2.
5:52
Both semifinal matches should be blowouts in favor of Oxford and Linden. Linden beat Kearsley 56-11 on Jan. 28 in a dual meet. Oxford beat Lapeer East 62-7 in a dual on the same day.
5:54
I'm a little bit nervous, because I've never blogged high school wrestling and I'm not sure how well I'll stay on top of winners and scores with two mats going at the same time. It's probably going to be fairly smooth.
6:01
Oxford's Nick Hadorn vs. East's Phillip Joseph to start that semi at 1989. Pin right away.
6:01
Joseph wins by pin in 1:18.
6:04
Linden's Brandon Worden wins by void at 189. Linden's Jake Smith vs. Dalton Owen at 215. Oxford's Prescott Line vs. East's Matt Depuy at 215.
6:12
Jake Smith of Linden pins Dalton Owen of Kearsley in 1:46. Cody Owen of Kearsley pins Joe Hopper of Linden in 1:38. Linden leads 12-6 through three matches.
