Discuss the Chargers with U-T sports columnist Nick Canepa

12:00
Nick Canepa -  Hello. I'm ready to go. Fire away.

[Comment From alex]
hi nick, isn't NFL just pricing itself out of "everyman's" pocketbook?
12:03
Nick Canepa -  I don't think so. The NFL is not an "everyman's" game and hasn't been for a mightly long time. With eight home games, they can do this. Doesn't mean that it's right, but that's the way it is.

[Comment From Dr. Terry W. Van Allen]
Nick, please share your insights on improving the RED ZONE play by the Chargers. Thank you.
12:04
Nick Canepa -  Well, LT is one of the great goal line runners in history, and he hasn't been playing when they've gotten into the red zone. That's a big deal. It also doesn't help when you get a delay penalty on the half-yard line. They have to clean things up when they get down there _ and they have to get their O line healthy

What's you opinion on the stadium story?
12:07
Nick Canepa -  I have yet to see a shovel in the ground in City of Industry. They aren't building a stadium until they know an NFL team is coming. Roski owns a casino in Vegas and can't own a team until he gets rid of it and now is not a good time to try and sell a casino. I don't think anything's going to happen with this stadium thing until 2011.

Do you think the Chargers will continue to play the 3-4, how?
12:09
Nick Canepa -  My guess is yes, because they're committed to it. But I can see Rivera using several variations. They don't have to go 3-4 on every down. Right now, we don't know how much those groin injuries will affect Merriman and Phillips. That doesn't help.

Do you think if the chargers have a losing season that Norv will be fired?
12:09
Nick Canepa -  I don't think they're going to have a losing season and, if they do, no.

[Comment From Arash]
do you think the chargers can shore up their center positions on the o line and d line or what?
12:11
Nick Canepa -  Too early to tell.

[Comment From Tony from Idaho]
Hi Nick. I feel like this edition of the Chargers is similar to the '84 or '85 Air Coryell teams; a team that has probably already peaked and is declining. It seems the Chargers peaked in '06 when they went 14-2 and choked against the Pats. What do you think?
12:12
Nick Canepa -  Overall, this is a far better club than the '84 and '85 Chargers and their quarterback is young. In 1985, Fouts was just about done.

[Comment From Lucas]
Do you see the Bolts making a big trade or somewhat of a impact trade to try and get some more experience at Center or another key injury spot that could use help?
12:13
Nick Canepa -  A.J. Smith has been known to deal when he needs someone during the season. But a blockbuster? Nah. Albert Haynesworth isn't coming here.
12:13
TwitterHyperliquid -  @sdutChargers what’s up with Ron Rivera defense?
12:15
Nick Canepa -  It isn't very good right now, that's what's up. He has to find a way to rush the passer and stop the run defense bleeding early in games. Halftime adjustments are fine. They have to adjust on the move.

In the preseason the Chargers looked like they could get into the playoffs with a healty team. What do you think now?
