John McClain on NFL and Texans

11:26
ChronicleSports -  Hello all. John McClain will be with us in just a moment.

11:27
John McClain -  Let me start by wishing former Oilers linebacker Gregg Bingham a successful recovery from surgery he had over the weekend. Bingham, who was the toughest player I've ever covered, is recuperating in a local hospital. It's going to be a long, tough road for Bingham, but if anybody can do it, he can.

Now, thanks ahead of time to everyone who's sending questions. remember, if I skip your question, it's probably because I've already answered it. I hope to get to as many as possible. Last week, we set an all-time Chron.com record for viewing chats. Thanks very much.

Now, on with the show!

[Comment From Joe Texan]
John, what are the chances we could get Sean Smith, CB from Utah? He would be a major upgrade over Reeves.
11:28
John McClain -  Smith should be a second-round pick. Some like him better at FS. I don't see the Texans drafting for either position in the first two rounds.
11:28
[Comment From Derick]
Do you see any way that we could draft Pat White?
11:28
John McClain -  There's always a way, and they like him, but they have needs at too mahy other positions to spend one on a QB who might not be a QB.
11:29
[Comment From JP]
Very important question, is Anna-Megan Raley single?
11:29
John McClain -

Do you want her to be?

11:29
[Comment From Daniel]
Burnett? is he staying?
11:29
John McClain -

I don't know if he's staying with the Cowboys, but the Texans aren't going to sign him. I expect him to sign with another team.

[Comment From Brian]
John, with the 49ers redoing Alex Smith's contract and now paying him typical backup money at $2 - $3 mkil per year and with Shaun Hill stillthere as well, do you think they would draft Mark Sanchez if he fell to them? I only ask because I am working on a mock draft and I am stuck with the 49ers pick.
11:30
John McClain -  Sanchez looked real good at the combine. I don't see him slipping past the 49ers.
11:30
[Comment From Mad Mike]
John, I would like to see us sign Warrick Dunn to a one year deal and that way we could concentrate on the defensive side of the ball in the draft. What do you think and also what is the status of Chris Taylor? thanks...........MM
11:31
John McClain -  Taylor's been long gone. They were interested in Dunn last year, but he signed with the Bucs. Gibbs coached him at Atlanta. Maybe on a one-year deal, but the backup to Slaton is still going to be a rookie, I believe.

so what's the latest? i'm a bit obsessed with footbal year round. checking chron.com, houstontexans.com, and nfl.com everyday and there isn't any indication houston is up to anything.
11:31
John McClain -  They're preparing for the draft. They're continuing to look at free agents. They'll sign some more. There are more than 400 out there. Be patient.
11:32
[Comment From Tim]
What do you see as the Texans most glaring need: RG, DT, FS/SS, CB, 2nd RB? What order do you think they'd be addressed in the draft? Is LB REALLY a need?
11:34
John McClain -  Is LB really a need? You tell me. A rookie who started on the weak side was hurt much of the year, including at the end. Is that a trend or just something that happened to him as a rookie? No one will know. The other OLB suffered a season-ending injury. When will he be 100 percent? One was a seventh-round pick, the other a fourth-round pick. The only quality backup is Kevin Bentley. Do you think they need a big-time, big-play OLB? I do. As I've written and said, I think their first five picks will bring an OLB, DT, RB, FS and DE. That's through four rounds.
11:34
[Comment From Jake]
Are the Texans going to look at Tank Johnson? He could help with depth, but he has had character issues.
11:35
John McClain -  His character is so bad the Cowboys don't even want him back. What does that tell you? Or, maybe they'd take him back if he had contributed something to them.
