Oct. 7 Baseball Chat

10:34
courant.com -

Good morning everyone and welcome to our first chat of the postseason. The Courant and courant.com will be with the Yankees and Red Sox every game, home and away. There’s plenty of baseball insight to draw from today as Rivalry Central baseball blogger Dom Amore is joined by The Courant’s Paul Doyle and Fox 61’s Rich Coppola. Dom’s headed to the Stadium right after this; Paul’s already in Anaheim and Rich and the Fox 61 sports team handle it all from the studio. What more could you want? The chat is open, start in with questions and comments and the guys will join at 11.

rcoppola -

hey guys

11:03
Dom Amore -  good morning, guys. Dom here
11:03
RICH COPPOLA -  HEY GUYS
11:04
Paul Doyle -  Good morning, Paul here from Anaheim.
11:04
Dom Amore -  Let's get started with sherwood, our buddy.
11:04
[Comment From Sherwood Anderson]
A lot of hot air has been blowing around about which catcher should Burnett have, Posada or Molina? It has been decided that it is Molina. But Burnett's two best games of the year were with Posada. And when Molina catches Posada's dependable bat is wasted. Posada has four rings. Posada should catch Burnett and everyone else.
11:05
RICH COPPOLA -  DOM AND I  SPOKE ABOUT THIS YESTERDAY... IT IS A GAMBLE, SOMEHWAT. I THINK IF IT FAILS IN GAME 2, THEN GOES TO GAME 5, GIRARDI HAS THE OUT OF SAYING WE GAVE IT A SHOT, AND, GET POSADA'S BAT BACK IN THE LINEUP
11:05
Dom Amore -

I'll take this one. ... Sherwood, as I told Rich yesterday, a manager has to go with his gut feeling this time of year and live with it. If Molina leaves the bases loaded and they lose 2-1, it's on the skipper. But Girardi has to go with what he thinks gives them the best chance to win one game. So I applaud him for guts, at least.   Rich, Paul, you want to weigh in?

11:06
Dom Amore -  we have a number of questions lined up, we'll get to 'em.
11:07
Paul Doyle -  Got to give Girardi credit for a tough decision. You're right Dom, this could come back and bite him. But if AJ wants Molina...

[Comment From Bud S.]
Dom and all, Could it get any better than last night? Better baseball maybe but not any more exciting. The question now for the Twins is who will pitch tonite? Frank Viola maybe???
11:07
RICH COPPOLA -  THAT WAS THE TYPE OF GAME WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT FOR A LONG TIME.. TOO BAD FOR THE TWINS THEY SHOULD HAVE NOTHING IN THE TANK TONIGHT.. ALTHOUGH, WE'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE WHERE AS TEAM WILL KEEP IT UP THE NEXT NIGHT, THEN HIT THE WALL AFTERWARD. THE DAY OFF BETWEEN GAMES WILL BE HUGE FOR THEM..
11:08
Paul Doyle -  Really, can they get Brad Radke to come out of retirment? What a huge win. You wonder if they'll be on an emotional high or if they'll crash tonight.
11:08
Dom Amore -  Hi Bud. Well, if you had a flight to Detroit lined up and had to scramble, like some sportswriters I could name, it could have been better.    But it was a great game. Tigers fans must be sick today, with all the chances they blew.
11:09
Dom Amore -  I guess Blackburn on short rest, then Pavano and Baker. Baker pitching just once, and Pavano in Games 2 and 5. If the Yankees lose, somebody's head would roll!

[Comment From Ron]
Heading down to the Stadium shortly, but do any of you guys remember a better game than that classic last night ?
11:09
[Comment From Ron]
Who will DH when AJ pitches - Posada or Matsui ?
11:09
Paul Doyle -

Guys -- Imagine Pavano at Yankee Stadium for Game 5?

11:10
RICH COPPOLA -  Was it Sid Breem sliding home in   that Pirates game?
