Severe Weather Chat

Ben Pine -  There's a slight risk for severe storms through the evening, with damaging wind gusts and large hail the main threats.   An isolated tornado can't be ruled out.   A watch could be issued later this afternoon.

This looks almost similar to the one we got back in July 2004. Of a cold front being pulled down from the north because of the jet stream. Do you believe this one will follow the same path?

We might go under a Moderate risk if these clouds don't thicken up soon. According to the weather cam, there's like hardly any clouds out there.

Ben Pine -  Yep, some good breaks in the clouds now.   Plenty of heating/instability.   Little cap over us from earlier showers just west.   Storms are firing to the east now, the SPC has been discussing those, also more storms will fire upstream first over Illinios, we're right in the middle of those batches.   Once the cap erodes, we'll have a good chance for some blossoming storms.

Ben Pine -  Storms will likely be moving to the ESE.   Lot of people outdoors, hope we can dodge a bunch of it.

I doubt it Ben right now we are only in the 15% risk, to even consider it we would have to be at least 30% (Moderate is 45%)

Ben Pine -  I'm not thinking Moderate either.   Of course, I've seen a moderate issued during the time when severe storms are firing up...not out of the question...but, not likely as far as I'm concerned.

Ben Pine -  The potential is out there for some good storms, just a watch and wait now through sunset.
