Cindy, How did you become interested in interior design & decoration?
1:03
Cindy -

It certainly wasn't part of any grand scheme. I always loved creating my own living spaces--starting with my bedroom in highschool. As I traveled and was exposed to more Ideas and cultures and designs, those elements starting showing up in how I like to live. I was approached over 5 years ago to do a furniture line after my house was featured in Elle Decor. The furniture line was a hit and then I partnered with JCPenney to bring a whole lifestyle brand to the market.

How can I put a feminine stamp on our place without "compromising" my husband's masculinity?
1:05
Cindy -  I think that it can be easily achieved with mixing different colors, textures and fabrics. Of course, avoid too much pink or lace and I think you're husband will like it as much as you do.

As a busy working mother, what would you say has been your biggest time-saving style decision in your home or closet (i.e., leather vs. fabric sofas, carpet vs. rugs).

Cindy -  Not having too much clutter.

Cindy, I have 2 matching love seat sofas in my living room and 2 large wingback chairs. There is a long wall opposite the fireplace but no other walls to place furniture. What do you suggest for the living room? The room is not very wide. Thank you.

Cindy -  Hi, Francine. Without seeing the space it's difficult to picture your room. My suggestion would be to invite a friend that you think has great style to spend an afternoon and play with different arrangements. Good luck!

I am decorating a playroom for my children. I would like to find a sofa that is easy to clean. What fabric would you suggest?
1:09
Cindy -  I love slipcovers in a fabric, like denim.

How do you store or dispose of clutter? (This is a huge issue with me. I am a minimalist; my husband a pack-rat.)

Cindy -  I think you have to be a very good editor and look at what you really use. I do a big purge twice a year and either trash or donate things from around the home. Also having proper storage is important. My home collection at JCPenney has leather nail-head trunks that provide great storage and style!

How often have you changed the design of your children's room? I would love a design tip that would require minimum changes as my son grows.

Cindy -  I think the key is to not make it too kiddie or too thematic. That way as the child grows you can personalize it with bedding, posters, pillows and fun accessories.

What's your best tip for making a guest room really inviting to your guests? Do you have any special touches you like to put to make their stay better?

Love the trunks. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Cindy -  We have a lot of house guests and it's important to me to make them feel welcomed. I always have mini toiletries, water bottles by the bed, a candle and matches and a place for them to store their things. One fun touch is my luggage rack at JCPenney — it's a great decorative piece even when it's not in use.
