Texans OTAs chat

John McClain -  Gang, sorry I'm late, but I was talking to players and coaches as they came off the field. I'll try to do two hours today. Sorry I can't get to everyone's questions, and I'll try not to answer the same question twice.

General! What's the "general" story regarding the OTAs thus far?
12:08
John McClain -

On the first day, Casey made a diving catch. Kubiak told him that wasn't necessary, that the idea in OTAs is to keep the players off the ground. Casey has done so well so far that when he dropped a pass yesterday, his teammates gave him a hard time.

John McClain -  The OTAs are used for teaching. They don't wear pads or hit. It's about new players, new coaches and a new system.

JM, Do you have a sense that the coaching staff is really excited about JJones this season or do you think their talk about his maturity is largely just reputation repair and also maybe an effort to motivate JJ?
12:12
John McClain -  They're always fired up about players at this time of the year, including Jones. Check out Megan Manfull's story and Anna-Megan Raley's video on Jones. If he holds the ball, he makes it and can help the team. If he doesn't and somebody else comes along, he'll be gone. I think he'll make it.

John, How upset are the Texans with Travis Johnson, what are the chances they will just move on without him
12:14
John McClain -

He's out there every day watching and learning. He runs sprints after practice. He's the starter, and he's in the last year of his contract, and I don't see anybody beating him out.
