Inside the NHL -- Live Chat

Good morning. The Sabres keep rolling along. Rookies are playing well. Goaltending has been terrific. Leadership issue appears to have been addressed. We'll see how well they hold up in the coming weeks, when the schedule gets tough. Not much to complain about, other than the Bills' quarterback problems, their run defense and their coach.

Anything yet on Myers or Kennedy concerning the rest of the season?
11:03

Darcy Regier is meeting with the media in a half hour, presumably to say that Myers will spend the season here. Anything else would be a total shock. He's been their best defenseman through nine games. Kennedy isn't going anywhere either. He was playing really well before he scored his first NHL goal last night and keeps getting better with every game.

Sabres are on pace for 140 pts this season, more than enough to get the Presidents Trophy. How do you like your crow served, Mr. GM-for-a-day?
11:05
Crow? Why do people keep saying I should eat crow. They're off to a great start. I picked them to finish eighth. Anything better than that would be great. It's not about eating crow. If you were paying attention, you would know that I suggested they keep Myers and Kennedy and address the leadership and toughness issue. That's what they did. If they have 140 points at the end of the season, I'll eat whatever you put in front of me.  For now, it's a good start.

How can so many fans insist that Grier has such a quality that translates into the team playing better or winning? All we get is a few minutes of live action between attorney commercials. How in the world can so many fans claim to know his leadership? I'm not saying he isn't; I'm just saying there's NO way I could know. I'm not at practice or in the locker room. It's called "projecting" on someone....

Grier is a terrific leader who immediately assumed his place in the dressing room. It's about how he approaches practice, how he carries himself, how he keeps things loose when needed, how he'll straighten somebody out when needed. He's respected. He's having a big effect. It's not always in the stats.

Its fun to see that this appears to be a 4 line team again
11:09
Yeah, their fourth line has been very good. All three guys have scored this season and have been banging around. It's been very effective. Matt Ellis made a great play last night on the pass to Gaustad. Kaleta has been Kaleta, and now he's being more of a force offensively.

I think this early success is gonna let Darcy sit on his hands come March. Because they have a hot streak now, then he'll assume that they can have another one - later in the season when they need it. And he won't get the players available at the trade deadline to make the run.
