NBA pre-draft chat

11:59
Jonathan Feigen -  Welcome everyone. I'm coming to you from a dungeon in Toyota Center. Eric Clapton has the media room. Maybe they can throw me a couple tickets to make up for it.

We can start the chat anytime. I'll probably have to run upstairs at 1 to catch up with Daryl Morey, who I don't think will say anything new. But we should get a solid hour in. Let 'er rip.

Thanks for the chat! What do you think the Rockets do in the next two days. Trade Landry for a pick? Buy a pick? or something larger?
12:00
Jonathan Feigen -  I'd say it's around 50/50 to get a first-round pick, considerably less likely in the first two-thirds of the first round. Landry is an attractive piece for teams -- young talent with decent contract. He could get some interest. More likely, the Rockets buy a second-rounder again.

What do you think of the Spur's latest acquisition?
12:02
Jonathan Feigen -  It's pretty impressive. I have heard some things in the past few months that he is declining athletically, but I have not seen it. Until he proves otherwise, I'd think Jefferson moves them back to contender status if the Big Three are healthy. They do need another big.

Amare coming to Houston?
12:02
Jonathan Feigen -  To visit? I think that would be the most likely scenario. Maybe he has tickets to Clapton tonight.

Would you trade Landry/TMac or Brooks/Tmac for a Combination of Amare Stoudamire and a throw in?
12:04
Jonathan Feigen -  No if Brooks is the cost. Amare is in the last season of his contract and plays a position that is not one of need on the Rockets. He is enough of an upgrade to do it for Landry, but in that case, it would depend on whether the Rockets felt they could get a more long-term guy that is a better fit for the McGrady contract. Believe me, Amare will play the field next summer. He views himself as a member of the LeBron-D-Wade echelon and will act like it.

Where are things with the Artest negotiations. Odds of signing him?
12:05
Jonathan Feigen -  Negotiations start next month. I expect a long summer on that, but also believe he will be back here.

Will the Rockets make a trade with Artest penciled in the rotation? Would they go after a swing man or another PF if Landry is included?
12:05
Jonathan Feigen -  They would not get to be that choosy. If they could get an elite swing man, they would not turn that down based on him being the right position. They do expect Artest to be back.

Jonathan, what is the latetest on Lior Eliyahu, Brad Newley, and Maarty Leunen? Will any of them joining the Rockets this year?
12:07
Jonathan Feigen -  Unlikely on all three. Luenen and Newley will be with the summer league team. If there are roster changes, there might be a spot on the team, but there sure isn't right now. Eliyahu is close to signing with Tau, a very good development for the Rockets. They are happy to have him spend a season playing on that level.

[Comment From Morey]
Mcgrady, landry, for number 2 pick, and get rubio?
12:08
Jonathan Feigen -  For the Griz, that amounts to Landry for the second pick, since McGrady will likely move on after the season and plays their best position anyway. I'm sure they could do better than that.

[Comment From Mitch]
Do the Rockets see James White as a replacement for Von Wafer?
12:08
Jonathan Feigen -  Way too soon to have confidence that he could do that. He is still very much a project.
